PREP ARA TION CHOOSING A M OUNTING LO CA TION The ideal location for mounting the a mplifier is in you r vehicle’s trunk. Wherever you decid e to mount it, choose a mounting location that: • Doe s not interfere with the vehicle ’s o peration. • Lets you drill mounting holes without damaging othe r vehicle componen ts.
Cautio n s: • T o prevent damage to your amplifier or aut osound system, you must first connect th e ground, p rimary , and switched powe r wires (as descr ibed in “Connecting G round and Pri mary/Switched Po wer”) before you connect the speakers t o the amplifier .
2. Securely c onnec t the supplied dark blue/whit e w ire’ s spade c onnector end to the amplifier ’s REM (r e mote power) terminal. 3. Connec t the dark bl ue/white wire’s other end to y our autosound syst em’s switched power lead using a twist-on terminal conn ector (such as Cat.
CONNECTING T O YOUR AUTOSOUND SYSTEM Low Le vel In pu t Co nn ec ti o ns You can c o nnect yo ur autosound sy s tem’s low-l evel pho no output j acks to the amplifier’s lo w-level phono input jac k s . For the bes t results, use shielded a udio cables, such as Ca t.
If your autosound system has four phono output s but you are using onl y two spea kers (front or rear) , connect only the autosound system’s correspond- ing output jacks to the amplifier using audio cab les as f o llows: • front-left to CH1 and front -right to CH2 , or • re a r- l e f t to CH3 and rear-right to CH4 12- 19 77 .
If your autosound syst em has only two phono output jacks (left an d right) and you are using four speak ers, use two Y-ada pter audio cables to make the conn ections as follows: Note: F or the be st results, use shielded p hono p lug-to-phono plug Y- adapter audio cables, such as Cat.
If your autosound system has o nly two phono output jacks (left and right) and y ou are using only two speak ers, simpl y connect them to the amp lifier ’s correspond ing CH1 and CH2 , or CH3 and CH4, phono ja cks.
If your autosound system has f our speaker outpu ts and you are going to use four speakers: Float ing Gr ound Connection Common Gr ound Connection 12-1 977.
If your au tosound system h as only two spea ker outputs and you are go ing to us e four speakers : Fl oati ng G round Connection Common G round Connection 12-1 977.
CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS With the speakers placed i n t heir approxim ate lo cations, run one s p eaker wire from each speaker to the amplifier. We recom mend you us e 16- or 18-gauge marked or c olor-coded wires to help yo u correctly conn ect the spea kers to your amplifier.
Connect ing Fo ur Spea kers 1. Connec t one e nd of a speaker wire’s mark ed cond uctor to the amplifier ’s CH1 + terminal (f ront-lef t positive). 2. Connec t the unmarked con ductor ’s end to t he amplifier ’ s CH1 - ter m in a l (front-left negat ive).
Co nnecting T wo Spe akers ( U nbri dged Con nection ) If you are c onnecting only two speakers , you can connect them to the amplifier’s fro n t ( CH1 and CH2 ) or rear ( CH 3 and CH4 ) speaker terminals. Cautio n : This is an unbridged con nection that produces 85 wat ts per channel.
Con n ecting T wo Speak ers (Br idged C onnecti on) If you are connecting onl y two speakers (left and right), you can add (bridge) the power out put o f two channel s (front and back) to produce t he combin ed power of both from each of the two speakers.
Co nnecting T wo Un bridg ed Speake rs and One Unbr idged Subw o ofe r 1. Connect the two spea kers to th e CH1 a nd CH2 terminals (front speakers) or to the CH3 and CH4 terminals (rear spea kers).
Connect ing T wo Unb ridge d Speaker s and One B ridged Su bwoof er 1. Connec t the tw o speak ers to the CH1 and CH2 t erminals (fron t speakers) or to t he CH3 and CH4 t e rminals (rear speakers).
TESTING THE C ONNECT IONS Before y ou perman ently m ount the am pl ifier, connect y our vehi cle battery’s neg- ative ( - ) cabl e, turn your vehicle’s i gnition to ON or ACC, then test the conne c- tions.
MOUNT ING TH E AMPL IFIE R Before y ou begin m ounting the am plifier, make su re you have t he following sup- plied hardware necessary f or moun ting. • 6 sheet-me tal screws • 6 spring washers • 6 flat washers Then confi rm that the amplifier fits your v e hicle’s m ounting area.
3. Using the mounting ho les on the amplifier as a gu ide, mark th e locations for the mount ing hol es. 4. D rill 9 / 64 -inch holes in the marked locations, being caref ul not to dam age anything behin d the mounting surface. 5. Attach the a mpl ifier to t he mou nting s urf ace usin g the s upp lied s heet-met al screws and washers.
OPER A TION TURNING ON T HE AMPLIF IER The am plifier automatically turns on when ever you turn your vehi cle’s ignition switch to ACC or ON. POWE R lights when the amplifier is o perating. SETTI N G THE LEVEL CONT RO L For th e best performance, you can ad just the lev el of audio s ignals that enter t he ampl ifier by followin g these steps.
2. T emporarily turn up the autosound s ystem’s volume control t o about one- third of it s fu ll range. Cautio n : Ne v e r turn t h e le v el controls up any farther than you need to get clear sound at two thirds volume maximum . 3. T urn the le ft and right LEVEL controls clock wise u ntil you can hear the sound at a comfortable level.
MAIN TENANCE Your Op timus 85 × 4 High Powe r 4 -Channel Trunk Mount Am plifier is an example of superior design and c raftsmanship. The follo wing suggestions will help you care for your (pro duct nam e) so you can e njoy it for years. Keep the amplifier dry.
REPLACING THE FUSES If the am plifier shuts d own, you might need to repl ace t he p ower wi re’s 50-am p tube-type fuse, ei ther of the two 25-am p bl ade-t ype fu ses on the b ac k panel, or all three fus es. Cautio n s: • Do not u se a fuse with ratings other than those specified here.
