6 Using AC Power You can po wer y our Concert mate-580 from a standard A C outlet using a 9- volt AC adapter (not supplied), such as Radio Shac k Ca t. No. 273-1651. Cautio ns : • Y ou must use an AC ada pter that supplies at least 9 vo lts, but no more than 12 volts, and delivers at least 500 m illi amps .
7 1. Plug the blue-tipped barrel plug into the cable so it reads + TIP (positive). 2. Set the adapter ’s voltage swi tch to 12 volts. 3. Insert the adapter ’s barrel plug into the DC9–12V I N jack on the back of the Concertmate-580. 4. Plug the o ther end of the ad apter into the vehicle’s cigarett e lighter sock et.
8 CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL AMPLIFIER To amplify your Concert mate-580’s sound, you can c o nnect it to an exter- nal amplifier (not supplied) usin g a 1 / 8 - inch plug audio cable (not supplied). To connec t an external amplifier to your keyboard, inse rt the cab le’s plug in to the HEADPHO NES/AUX.

14 4. T o slow dow n the auto-rhythm, repeatedly press TEMPO t. T o speed it up, repeatedly press TEMPO s. Notes : • Y ou can ad just TEM PO s/t t o play an aut o-rhythm from 48 to 240 beats per minute. • T o reset the tem po t o i ts defa ult (original) speed (120 be ats per minute), press both TEMPO s and t at the same time.
15 Using INTRO The Conc ertmate-580’s IN TRO fe a- ture lets you start the selected auto- rhythm with a light, 1-measure intr o- duction that blends easily int o the se- lected rhyt hm. To start a rhythm with an introduction, select a nd enter t he rhy thm, then press INTRO/FI LL IN .
16 USING AUTO BASS CHORD (A.B .C) A UTO ACCOMPANIM ENT The 19 keys on the l eft side of the key- board wit h note labels ab ove them a re called acco mpanim ent keys. You c an set the Concert mate-580 to play the following two different types of auto- accomp animent.
17 Easy Rand om Finge rin g The easy random f ingering method lets begin ning keyboa rd players eas il y select and pl ay a chord. The num ber of accom pani ment k eys you press det ermines t he type o f cho rd played. T he following table show s the type of chord that plays when you press one, two, or three accom pani - ment keys at the same time.
18 Stan da rd Fin geri ng The sta ndard fingering method uses standard f ormations of three or four n otes, and lets the experienced musician play a wider variety of accompani men t chords. You can pl ay the fo llowing 15 chord types on your Con certmate-5 80, in any key, us- ing the standard fingering method.

20 SPEC IAL FE ATURES USING THE PERCUSSION PADS The Concert mate-580’s percus sion pads put the sou nd of five different p er- cussion instrument s — bass drum, conga, sna re drum , hi -hat, and cym bal — at your fingertips. To play a percussi on pad sound, s im- ply press the de sired pad at any time during play.
21 USING VIBRA T O The Concert mate-580’s v ibrato feature lets you give your m usic a “wavering” effect, slightly va rying the pitch of notes as you press the keys. To t u rn on the vibrato feature, s imply press VI - BRA TO before or during play.
