2 INTRODUCTION RadioShack welcomes you to the next generation of personal commu- nication — the Family Radio Ser- vice (FRS). FRS is a new license- free, two-way, short-range vo ice ra- dio service that lets families and groups keep in touch with each oth- er on specific reserved channels.
3 PREPARATION INST ALLING BA TTERIES Your radio requires four AAA batter- ies (not supplied) for power. For the best performance and longest life, we recommend RadioShack alka- line batteries. You can also use Ra- dioShack rechargeable batteries and recharge them using an o ption- al charger.
4 2. T o remove the battery com- partment cover , press the raised dots on the cover and slide it down. 3. Install the batteries, according to the polarity symbols (+ and –) inside. 4. Replace the cover , then rein- sert the belt clip (if desired). The radio’s range decreases as bat- tery power decreases.
5 SELECTING A CHANNEL 1. Remove the battery compart- ment cover . 2. To set the radio to transmit on Channel 1 , use a pointed object (such as a straightened paper clip) to slide the switch inside the battery compart- ment to CH 1 .
6 OPERATION On/Off/V olume — rotate to turn the radio on and off and adjust the vol- ume. Warbling tones sound when you turn the radio on. Antenna — extend when receiving and transmitting. CALL — hold down to page anoth- er radio tuned to the same frequen- cy.
7 ATTACHING THE BELT CLIP Slide the belt clip onto the tab at the back of the radio until it clicks. Then slide the clip over your belt. To re- move the clip, pull up on t he middle tab of the clip and slide the clip down.
8 CARE To enjoy your Personal Two-Way Radio for a long time: • Keep the radio dry . If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately . • Use and store the radio only in normal temperature environ- ments. • Handle the radio gently and carefully . Don’t drop it.
