5 Chec king th e Batter y Condition To chec k the battery’s condi tion, press PLA Y , REWIND , or FA S T - F . I f the RECORD/BATTERY indicator lights steadil y , th e b atteries need re- placing. Using AC Power You can also power the CTR-94 from standard AC power u sing an AC adapte r, such as Radio Shack Cat .
6 Usin g V ehi cle Batter y Pow er You can also power t h e CTR-94 from your vehicle’s b attery using a n auto DC adapter (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 14-844, not suppl ied) that connects to your v ehicle’s cigarette- li ghter so cket. Cautio ns: • The recomm ended DC adapt er supplies 6 v olts and d elivers at leas t 3 00 mi llia mp s.
7 CONNECT ING AN EARPHONE For private listenin g, you can use the supp lied earphone. I nsert the ea r- phone’s 1 / 8 -inch p lug into t he EAR jac k. Note: Connecting the earph one au- tomatica lly disconnects the built-in spea ker. Liste ning Safe ly To protect your hearing, follow thes e guidelines when you use an ear- phone.
8 OPE R A TION LOADING A CASSETTE 1. T ake up any slack in the tape by turning one of the cas sette’s hubs with a pencil. Cautio n: If you do n ot remove excess sla c k, the tape might get tangled in the record/ p layback mechanism . 2. Press STOP/ EJECT to open t h e cassette com partm ent door.
9 3. Adju st VOLUME to the desired listening level. 4. Press STOP/EJECT to com- plete ly stop pl ayback before i t automati call y stops. Pres s STOP/EJECT again to open the casset te compa rtment and remove t he cassett e.
10 1. Load a blank c assette tape, or one you want t o record over , into the cass ette c ompartment . 2. If the ex ternal microphone has only a 1 / 8 -inch plug, insert it into the recorder ’ s MIC jack. If the ex ternal microphone has two pl ugs a nd an on/off switch, you can remo tely control the CTR-94 from your mi crophone .

12 Pre ventin g Acciden tal Erasu re Cassette tapes have two erase-pro- tection ta bs — one f or each side. When a t ab is in place, you can record on t hat side. To protect a reco rding from being ac - cidentally recorded ov er or erased, use a screwdriver to rem ove one or both of t he cassette t ape’s eras e- protection t abs.
