20 2.5 System Configuration Setting up the CMS S erver Fo llow the steps bel ow to install the software of the CMS Server . The followi ng example i s based on the Windows OS . 1. In stal l th e QNAP Finder from the p roduct CD. 2. Run the QNAP Finder .

25 Chapter 3 Installing CMS Client After network setti ngs of the CMS Server are confi gured , pl ease connect the CMS Server to the network and s et up the CMS Cl ient . Important : Before using the CMS Client, make su re the h ard di sk drives on the CMS Server have been properly i nstalled and confi gured.
26 3.2 Install ing CMS Client Fo llow the st eps below to i nstall the CMS Client : 1. Run the CMS Cli ent installer from the product CD and cli ck “ Next ” .

28 4. After finishin g the in stallation p rocess, click “ Fi nish ” . 3.3 Connect ing CMS Client to CMS Server Fo llow the st eps below t o connect t he CMS Cli ent to the CMS S erver:.
29 1. Run the CMS Cli ent. Enter the IP addr ess of the CMS Server , th e userna me, password and domai n (pl ease select t he domai n from t he “ Login to ” field) and click “ OK ” . Or , cl ick “ Au to Find ” to search for CMS S ervers on the local network .
30 2. Enter th e ad ministrator username and pass word to l ogin and start using t he CMS Cl i ent. 31 License Activ ation Activate your license on thi s page. Licens e activation is required b efore cameras can be added. For details, please r efer to Chapter 3 .
32 Adding NVR(s) Click “ Auto Detect ” to search for th e NVR(s) on the LAN automaticall y , or enter the NVR I P address manual ly . Click > to move the NVR to be added to t he box on t he right and click “ Confirm ” to add th e NVR .
33 Set up Display M ode The admini strator can select the display mode an d assign the channel s manual ly to use the sequential mode or have the all the channel s assigned by the NVRs instead. When “ Sequenti al mode ” i s selected, cameras c hannel s will be assigned sequenti ally to each chann el wi ndow i n the di splay mode.

37 3.5 Configuring CMS Client T o enter the system settings page on the CMS Cli ent, l ogin the live view page a s an admini strator and then click ..

40 3.6 License Please acti v ate your license on thi s page if you have not already done so usi ng th e Quick Configuration Wiz ard. License activation is required before cam eras can be added. A 64 -channel li cense is provided for each CMS Se rver and you can choose to acti vate or deactivate yo ur l icense onli ne of offline.
41 3.7 Activat ing License Online Please foll ow the steps bel ow to activate your license online: 1. Cli ck “ Acti vate L icense Onli ne ” 2. Enter the product au thoriz ation key and click “ Activate ” and “ Fini sh ” .
42 3. After the li cense is acti vated o nli ne, the license detail will appea r . 3.7.1 A ctivating License Off line If the Internet i s unavailable, please follow the s teps below to activate your license offli ne. 1. Click the “ Acti vate License Offline ” button.
43 2. Click “ Offli ne Activation ” after enterin g the Licen se Store (http: //license.qn ap.com)..
44 3. After membershi p registration, pl ease fill out the PAK provided, the device UD I and verification co de from the license acti vation page to download the physical permission file. Tip: Use the “ Copy UDI ” function to co py UDI and paste in the field of QNAP license store.

46 3.7.2 Tra nsferr ing/Delet ing Authoriz ation T o transfer and delete your li cense, please deac ti vate it first either online or offli ne. Online Li cense Deactivation: If Internet access is available for the CMS Ser ver , please click the license to b e deactivated and then “De activate License Onlin e“.
47 The license will be deacti vated and removed from the li st. Offline Li cense Deactivation: If Internet connecti on is un av ailable for th e CMS Server , please click “Deactivate Li cense O ffline“. The CMS Cl i ent will generate a deactivation ti cket (a physical file).

Upload the deacti vation ticket gener ated i n Step 1, fill in the verification code and cl ick “ App ly“. 3.8 Server After license man agement (act ivation and deactivation), the next step i s to add NVR servers and cameras. Add, delete, and edi t any server types supported by the C MS on the “S erver” page.
51 The CMS client can apply the sam e system time, al ert notificati on and SMSC settings to a number of NVRs ( only limi ted to the same mod els) to save the system setup time.
52 Y ou can use t he aut o-find fun ction to search for the NVR server(s) on the LAN, or enter the NVR IP address man ually . When addin g more than one server , you can enter a pair of us ername an d password and apply to all of them . When the “ Add all the cameras ” opti on is checked, all the cameras configured on the NVR will be added.

54 The NVR in another subnet will be added. After adding all required NVR(s), click “ OK ” an d the “ Add Server in Progress ” message bo x will app ear and the status will be shown in the box. Click “C onfi rmation ”. Th e system wi ll add th e servers one by one .
55 Note: For the “ Connection Erro r ” error message , please che ck your user ID/passwo rd, firewall and network settings. 3.8.2 Del eting/Ed iting NV R T o delete an NVR, select the NVR on the list and click . T o edit the NVR detail s (s erv er name, IP add ress, port, user name, or passwo rd), sel ect the NVR and cl ick .
56 3.8.3 A dding/Re moving Camera Select an NVR from the l ist an d a list of available camer as will be shown b elow . Use th e left and right arrows to add or remove the cam eras to b e contr oll ed and monitored by the CM S Client .

58 Tip: Y ou can select to up date the firmware of mul tiple NVR servers at the same ti me if they are the same mod el. 3.8.5 TCP/IP Configuration The CMS Server supports static I P assignment for all NVRs, and for each NVR, the number of LAN ports can b e different.
59 Configuring NVR with a Single LAN Port If the NVR supports a si ngl e LAN port, select one of the fol lowing opti ons to configure the T CP/IP s ettings of the N VR. Use static I P address : T o as sign a fi xed IP to the NVR, e nter the IP add ress, the subnet mask, and the defaul t gateway .
60 Configuring NVR with Dual LAN Port s If the NVR supports t wo LAN ports, select to use fail over , load balan cing, or standalone setting. T o use th ese features, make sur e both LAN ports ar e connected to the n etwork.
61 Note: T o optimize the network tr ansfer speed of the NVR in the load balancing mode, use an Ethernet swi tch and enabl e 802.3ad (or lin k aggregation) on the swi tch ports that the NVR ’ s Gigabi t LAN ports are connected t o.
62 Standalone : Assign different IP s ettings for each netwo rk port. The NVR can be accessed by di fferent workgroups on two subnet s. When load bal ancing is enabl ed, failover will not work. Th e DHCP server can onl y be enabled for th e primary netwo rk port (LAN 1).
63 3.8.6 System Time Set the date, time, and t ime zone. If the setti ngs are incorrect, the foll owing probl ems may occur: Incorrect time stamp s on th e video files.
64 T o configure this fe ature, please s et the al ert level and spe cify SMTP server addr ess, SMTP authorizati on credenti als and email addresses of the recipi ents . T o vi ew th e d etails of all th e errors and warnin gs, go to “ Logs & Stat istics ” > “ System Event Logs ” .
65 After “ Add SMS s ervice provider ” is selected, ent er the name of the SMS provider and the URL template text. Note: Please always foll ow the standard published by t he SMS servi ce provider to confi gure the SMS settin gs. Please send a test SMS to verify that th e settings are correct .
66 3.9 Camera Information of the cam eras being controll ed by the CMS is sh own on thi s page. The informati on shown on thi s page i ncludes the camera name, the NVR th at t he camera belongs to , IP address, model, and the live video. R ecordin g se ttin gs and schedules of the cameras can also be man aged on this page .
67 Video compression : Select the c ompression for mat of the recordi ng fil es. Re solu tion: Sel ect th e recordi ng reso luti on of the camera . Th e h igher t he resol ution, the clearer the video wi ll be, but the la rger the hard di sk space will be used.
68 T o create a r ecording schedule under the “Schedul e” tab , specify the d ays and dur ation for recording and click “ Add ” . Note: When any changes have been made, an asteri sk will appear on the t ab . Y ou will be prompted to save the ch anges when switchi ng to a different tab.
69 3.10 Eve nt Management The CMS Server can be set to receive NVR alerts ( such as motion detection events or events triggered by alarm i nputs) . After ch ecking these options, click “ Save ” to save the setting s or “ Undo ” t o go back to the previ ous step.

71 3.11 Vie w The admini strator can define the vi ew layout in vi ew configuration. After choosing a view layout, enter the name and descri ption of the vi ew .

73 Then, drag the cameras i n the NVR list on th e left to the channel wi ndow on the ri ght. The E-map(s) can also be in serted..
74 Double click the window to adjust t he carousel or der and i nterval, and edit the cam era to be view ed . The li ve view su pports th e carousel fun ction . In the descripti on field of each layout , Server name and th e order of each placed cam era will be listed.
75 Note: Drag an NVR to the blank channel win dow , and all the camer as of t he chosen NVR will be played in the sequen tial mode i n that chan nel window.
76 Tip: Press and hold the “ Shift ” key and drag an NVR to a channel win dow , and its cameras will be inserted to each channel window one by one . If the nu mber of the re main ing channel window i s less than the total numb er of cameras from the NVR, tho se add itional cameras will not be added.
77 3.12 E- map The E-map feature of th e NVR is pr ovided for us ers to up load electronic maps to the sy stem to indicate the locations of the IP cameras. User s can dr ag and drop the camera icons* to the E-map and enabl e event alert to r eceive in stant notification when an ev ent occu rs to the IP camera.

84 3.12.4 Editing IP Camera on E -map After uploading the E -map and ad ding the cameras to the map, double click the IP camer a icon to config ure the cameras. The icon style and name, font c olor , backg round color , de scription, etc . can be set .

100 3.13.2 Group Man agement This feature is used t o c lassify th e users for effici ent user management . Note: The same CMS users can be assig ned both to a Role an d G roup . Therefore, on e user can have both role and group properti es. Adding a grou p T o create a new gr oup, click .
101 After al l the fields in th e User Man agement Wizard are complete, the newl y c reated us er will be listed un der its perspecti ve group under the “ Group ” tab. Username : The user na me must be 1 to 32 characters in l ength . It supports alphab ets (A- Z), numbers (0 -9), and un derscores (_) .

Removing an user from a group T o remove a user from a group, select the us er and click “ Remove User from Group ” .
106 3.13.3 User List T o check th e u sers wi thin a group or r ole, please cli ck the role o r g roup u nder the “ Role ” or “ Group ” tab and all user accounts and their detail s, including the name, role/group that it belongs to, phone numb er , email , and description, will be li sted on the righ t side of the page.
107 3.14 CMS Se rver Settings 3.14.1 Domain Security The domain security feature is designed for the CMS Server to join the Active Directory (AD) and Ligh tweight Directory Access Prot ocol (LDAP) di rectory and for AD and LDAP users t o access th e CMS S erver.
108 Acti ve Directory authent ication (domai n member): Select thi s option to joi n the CMS Server to an AD d omai n. Enter all fields and choose to enable the RADIUS service. After j oini ng the CMS Server to an AD d omai n, t he AD users can log into t he CMS Server.
109 LDAP authenticati on (LDAP client): Select this o ption to connect the CMS Server to an LDAP directory. Enter all fields (refer to the foll owing tabl e for explanations on each field) and choose to enable the RAD IUS service.
