30 2.5 System Configuration Install Finder 1. Run the pro duct CD , the foll owing menu is shown. Click “Install Finder” . 2. Follow the instructions to install F inder . Upon successful in stallation, run Finder . If Finder is blocked by your fi rewall, unbl ock it.
31 3. Finder detects the VioStor servers on the local network. If the server has n ot been initiali sed, you will be prompted to perform quick setu p. Click “Y es” to continue. Note: If VioStor is not fo und, click “R efresh” to try again. 4. Y ou must enter the administr ator name and password to perform quick setup .
32 5. The quick conf iguration page will be shown. Click “C ontinue” and f ollow the instructions to fini sh the configur atio n. F or further information, please refer to Chapter 6.1. 6. Click “Start installat ion” to execute the quick configuration.
33 7. After the quick configur ation, you can start to use VioStor . Click “Start Monitoring” to view the live video from th e IP cameras or click “Close” to return to the home page of the system admi nistra tion. 8. The first time you co nnect to the monitoring page of Vi oStor , install the ActiveX add-on.

35 Chapter 3. Use VioStor by Local Display Y ou can connect to VioStor by local display vi a the VGA connector to perform PC -less quick configur ation, mo nitoring, and video pla yback. T o use this feature, you need to do the following: 1. Make sure at least one hard disk drive ha s been installed on VioStor .
36 When VioStor is turned on , the login screen will be sh own. Select the lang uage. Enter the administr ator name and password. If your VioStor has not been configured, skip the login page and enter Quick Configuration (refer to Chapt er 3.
37 3.1 Quick Configurati on If the NVR has not been conf igured, Quick Conf iguration Wizard will be shown. Follow the instructions of the wiz ard to complete the system setup . Note: All the changes will be effective on ly after you apply the settings in the last step.
38 2. Change the admin password or use the default password (admin). 3. Select to obtain the network setti ngs automatically or enter the network settings.
39 4. Enter the date and time settings. Y ou ca n select to synchron ize the server time with an Internet time serv er . If you enter a domain name for the NTP server , make sure you ha ve set up a correct DNS ser ver . 5. Select the disk configu ration.
40 6. Configure the IP camer a settings . If no IP camer as have been set, y ou will be prompted to search for the camer as on the local network. The cameras found will be shown.
41 T o manually add an IP c amera or edi t the camera settings, click . Enter the camer a settings. Click “T est ” to test the connection. Click “R emove” t o delete the camer a.

43 7. V erify the settings and click “ Next” to init ialize the server . 8. When the initiali zation completes, you can start to use VioStor . Click “Start Monitoring” to enter the monitoring screen.
44 3.2 Monitoring Upon successful login, the monitori ng screen will be shown. Y ou can start to monitor the IP camer as, change th e di splay mode, enable or disable manual recording, control PTZ cameras, and so on.
45 Icon Description Monitor: Click this icon to e nter the monitoring page. Playback: Click this icon to e nter the playback page. Hide left pane l: Hide the panel on the left of the monitori ng page. Show le ft pane l: Show the panel on the left of the monitoring page.
46 Event notification: When the alarm recording is enabled and an ev ent is detected, this icon will b e shown. Click this icon to view the alert details. Y ou c an select to turn on or off the alert sound. T o clear all the logs, click “C lear All” .
47 PTZ Control Panel The term “PTZ” st ands for “Pan/Tilt/Zoom” . If your IP camera supports PTZ, you can use the control panel on VioStor to adju st the viewing angel of the IP camer a. These functions are a v ailable depending on the camer a models.
48 Display Mode VioStor supports various displa y modes for monitori ng. Click the correct icon to switch the display mode. 49 Live View Screen Upon successful configur ation of the IP cameras, you can enter the monitoring screen to view the live video from the cameras. If your camera supports pan and tilt functions, you can click the chann el on the screen and adjust the viewing angle with your mouse directly .

52 3.3 Video Playback Y ou can play the videos on the NVR by the lo cal display . T o use this feature, click on the monitoring screen. Most of th e icons on the playback screen are the same as those on the monitoring screen. Please refer to Chapter 3.
53 Playback Settings: Y ou can play , pause, stop, reverse play a video file, or select to pla y the previous or next file. When playing a video, you can use the scroll bar to adjust the playback speed or click the digital zoom icon to zoom in or zoom out the video.
54 Chapter 4. Use VioStor by Web-based Interface Y ou are recommended to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to monitor the IP camer as and manage the functions of VioStor . Important Notice: Before you start to use VioStor , make sure you have installed the hard disks in th e server correctly and finished the disk formattin g and configurati on.

62 4.2.2 Display Mode VioStor sup ports different display mode s for viewing the monitoring channels. 4.2.3 PTZ Camera Control Panel The term “PTZ” stands for “P an/Ti lt/Z oom” . If your IP camer a supports the PTZ feature, you can use t he control panel on VioStor to adjust the viewing angel of the IP camera.
63 4.2.4 Multi-server Monitor ing F ollow the steps below to u se the multi-se rver monitoring feature of VioStor . 1. Click “Server L ist” on the monitoring page. a. Click “ Auto Detect” to search for the QNAP NVR on the LA N and add the server to the server list.

65 Y ou can configure the following settings: Video Streaming Stream from the server: If you ca nnot conn ect to the IP camer a from y our computer , select this option and the NVR w ill stream the video from the NVR. This option does not require extr a port mapping co nfigurati on; but ma y influence the performance of the NVR.
66 4.2.6 Auto Cruising The au to cruising feature of Vi oStor is us ed to configure the PTZ camer as to cruise according to the preset positions and the st aying time set for ea ch preset position. T o use the auto crui sing feat ure, follow the steps below .
67 4. Click the number buttons to view the pres et positions of the PTZ camer a. Whe n you click the button, the name of the corre sponding preset position is shown o n the “Preset Name” drop-down menu.
68 5. Add: T o add a setting for auto cruisi ng, select the “Preset Name” from the drop-down menu and e nter the staying ti me (interval , in seconds). Click “ Add” . 6. Update: T o change a settin g on the list, highlig ht the selection. Select another preset position from the drop down menu and/or change the staying time (interval).
69 8. After configuring the auto cruisi ng settings, che ck the box “ Enable auto cruisi ng” and click “OK” . Th e NVR will start auto cruisin g according to the settin gs. Note: 1) The default staying time (interval) of th e preset position is 5 seconds.
70 Chapter 5. Playback the Video Files VioStor provides an intuit ive web interface to search and play the recordin g files without any extra softw are required. Y o u can access the video files over LAN or WAN . 5.1 Use the Web-based Playback Interface (VioStor Player) 1.

77 Event entry i. Select the NVR server(s ) and the IP camer a(s)*. * Y ou can select 4 IP cameras at maximum. ii. Click the “Event entry” tab .

79 vi. Event search. Th is function is provided for you to search for all th e events occurred on the IP camera s. Y ou may refer to the event details to search for the recording data. Search all: Search for the specified events occurred on all th e IP cameras of an NVR within the time r ange specified.
80 5. When the files are shown, you can play the video. Note: The regular recordings are shown in white while the alarm reco rdings are shown in red on the playlist.
81 5.1.2 Play Video Files from Your Com puter 1. C lick “ Add files” . 2. Browse and select the files. 3. The playlist will be show n. Click “Play” to start playing.
82 5.1.3 Quad-view Play back The quad -view playback feature allows yo u to search for the video recorded by the NVR servers quickly . Y ou can view the vide os of four IP camer as simultaneously or select to divide the video of one IP camer a into four time periods and play them in a quad-view window .
83 Play th e video of fou r IP cameras Select four IP camera s. Enter the se arch criteria in the “T ext entry” or “Graphical entry” . Wh en the search results are shown, you can play the video files of the four IP cameras simultaneously .
84 5.1.4 Intelligent Video Analytics (I VA) The NVR supports intelligent vi deo analytics to allow the users to search the video files effici ently. The following features a re supported for video analytics: Moti on detection: Detects t he movement of the objects i n the video.

86 Note: When you check the option “P ause wh en fo und” , the data search stops when a video file which match es the search criteria is found.
87 6. Define the detection zo ne. Mouse over the edge of the red zone and use the mouse to define the detecti on zone. Clic k “Select all” to highlight the entire area for detection.
88 7. Define the object size for the detection. You can use the mouse the drag the yellow zone to define t he mini mum object size for detection. Note: After enabling this option, al l the objects smaller than the yell ow zone will be ignored for detection.
89 8. Click “Search” to start searching the video by IVA. The results will be show n..
90 Note: You can double click an entry on the sear ch result dialog to play the video. The player will play the video starting from 15 se conds before the event to 15 seconds after the event. You can also ri ght click an entry o n th e search result dialog to export the video and save it on your compu ter.
91 5.1.5 Convert to AVI File Y ou can save the recording files recorded by VioStor as A VI fi les to your P C. Note: Y ou must ha ve the playback authority of the IP ca mera to use this feature . Follow the steps below to save the video from VioStor .

95 5.2 Digital Watermarking VioStor NVR supports digi tal watermarking to protect the videos and snapsho ts from unauthorized modi fication. Y ou can select to add the di gital watermark on the exported video and snapshot on VioStor Player .
96 3. Select to add digital watermark in the exported snapshot or video . 4. Select the recording files (refer to Chap ter 5). 5. C lick to convert the video files into A VI format.
97 6. Click to start playing and exporting the files. Note: Wh en you click again, the NVR will stop exporting the f iles and resume to the playb ack mode.
98 5.2.2 Watermark Proof T he Watermark Proof utilit y is installed automatically along with VioStor Player. From the Windows Start men u, select “All Programs” > “ QNAP” > “Player” to locat e “Watermark Proof”. Run Watermark Proof.
99 Click to start checking the files. The Watermark Proof will start checking the files and show the proof result. If yo u check the option “Stop when watermark error is detected”, the checking procedure will st op if a failed file is detected. Otherwise the program will ch eck all the files you have selected.

101 5.3.1 Windows Network Neigh bourhood (SMB/ CIFS) Y ou can access the video files by the SMB/CI FS protocol, which is popularly used o n the Windows OS. Y ou can access the folder to where the video files are saved by: On the web-based playback interface, click “S MB” .
102 5.3.3 FTP Server (FTP ) Y ou can access the recording data b y FTP: On the web-based playback interface, click “FTP” . In Windows Internet Ex plorer , enter ftp://user name:password@VioStorIP/ . For example, enter ftp://admin:admin@ 172.

104 Upon successful login, you can view the monitoring channels, the connection and recording status, and th e network bandwidth of the NVR on the “ Advanced Mode” page. Y ou can also select the “T ra ditional Mode” to vi ew the settings of t he NVR.

106 6.1 Quick Configurati on Please follow the instructio ns to configure Vi oStor . Note: All the changes will be effective only after you click “S tart installation” in the last step. Step 1. Enter the server name. The serv er name supports up to 14 char acters which my i nclude alphabets (A –Z a nd a– z), numbers (0–9), a nd dash (-).

Y ou c an also enable or disable the recording on each channel, test the co nnection to the IP cameras and then click “Save” to a pply the changes.
110 After completing the settings, click “Start Insta llation” to apply the changes and initialize th e system. The quick configu ration is completed and you can start to use VioStor . Click “ Start Monitoring” to view the live video from the IP cameras or click “Close” to return to the system administ ration home pa ge.
111 6.2 System Settings Y ou can configure the basic system setting s including the server name, the date & time, and view the system settings. 6.2.1 Server Name Enter the n ame of VioStor . The serv er name supports maximum 14 characters, which can be a combination of alphabets, numbers, and hy phen (-).
112 6.2.2 Date & Time Set the date, time, and time z one accordin g to your location. If the settings are incorrect, the follow ing problems may occur: When playing the video f iles, the display time will be in correct. The display time of th e event log will be in consisten t with the actual t ime when the event w as recorded.
113 6.2.3 View System Settings Y ou can view the system settings such as the server name on this page..
114 6.3 Network Settings Y ou can configure the W AN and LAN settings, DDNS service, file service, host access control, protocol managemen t and view the net work settings in this sect ion. 6.3.1 TCP/IP Configuration Select one of the follo wing options to co nfigure the T CP/IP settings of the NVR.
115 If your NVR supports two LAN ports, you can select to use failover , load balancing, or standalone settings. T o use these features, mak e sure both LAN ports are connected to the netwo rk.
116 Configuration of Networ k Interfaces Failover (Default settings fo r dual LAN NVR models) F a ilover refers to the capability of swit ching over the network transfer port to the redundant port auto matically when the primary one fa ils due to hardw are or connection error to a void network di sconnection.
117 Load balancing Load balancing enables th e network reso urces to spread between two or more network interfaces to opti mize the network tr ansfer a nd enhance the system performance.
118 Standalone The standalone opt ion allows you to a ssign different IP settings for each network port. VioStor can be accesse d by different workgroups on two different subnet s. When load balancin g is enabled, failover does not work. Y ou can only enable the DHCP server for the primary network port (LAN 1) .
