FI0154601-00 C 3-1 3 Planning This section describes how to plan for the SANbox 6140 router . Consider the following when planning to use the SANbox 6140 ro uter: Devices (see page 3-1 ) Devic.
3 – Planning Device Access 3-2 FI0154601-00 C S Device Access Consider device access needs within t he FC and iSCSI SANs. Controlling access to FC device LUNs requires mappin g FC de vice LUNs to specific iSCSI initiators. Y ou may map LUNs to more than one initiator .
3 – Planning iSCSI Performance FI0154601-00 C 3-3 A Beyond these dist ances, however , the connection loses some ef ficiency because the transmitting port must wait for an acknowle dgement before sending the next frame. Bandwid th Bandwidth is a me asure of the volume of dat a that can be transmitted at a given transmission rate.
3 – Planning Performanc e T unin g 3-4 FI0154601-00 C S Performance T uning Proper configuration maximizes the router’s performance. Knowing the round trip delay (distance b etween the router and iSCSI initiators) and W AN effect ive data rate (connection type) allows you to tune the router for optimal performance.

3 – Planning Multiple Routers FI0154601-00 C 3-7 A Multiple Routers By connecting two routers between your Fibre Channel SAN and iSCSI SAN, you can eliminate the router as a single poin t of failure. Management The SANsurfer Router Manager application an d CLI run on a management workstation use d to configure, control, and maintain the route r .
3 – Planning Recovery 3-8 FI0154601-00 C S Recovery It is prudent to have a process in place to reco ver from a possible router failure. Consider the following when developing a recovery process fo .
3 – Planning Securit y FI0154601-00 C 3-9 A Security Passwords provide router security . The SANsurfer Router Manager require s a password each time a user logs into the application. Once connected, the SANsurfer Router Manager prompt s for an administrative password before it accepts configura tion changes.
