Intr oduction Thank y ou for choosing the PURE EVOKE-1 digital radio. This owner’ s manual provides information on setting up your unit, instructions on using it and details of the accessories and s uppor t av ailable. The EVOKE-1 is a mains-po wered stand-alone portable radio for y our bedroom, kitchen, study or just about an ywhere.

Connecting to other de vices This section provides information on connecting y our aerial and connecting to any other de vices. Connector sockets are pro vided on the rear panel of y our EVOKE-1. Before connecting other devices to y our EV OKE-1, switch both de vices off.
6 Connecting to pow er suppl y Once y ou ha ve made all other connections, connect the supplied power lead to the socket on the side of y our digital radio and plug the pow er adapter into a wall outlet. Connecting an auxiliary speaker Y ou can connect a second unpow ered speaker to y our EV OKE-1 radio using the Aux Speaker socket.
Switching on and off Before switching on for the first time, check all connections, extend your aerial fully and ensure that the v olume is turned down. Push and release the Power button to switch the unit on or off. The LCD screen will light up when the unit is on.
Retuning your unit Y ou can re-tune y our unit at an y time using the autotune process. Y ou ma y wish to do this if a new multiplex is launched or y ou move y our unit to another room.
9 Changing the display mode EVOKE-1 has six displa y modes which enable y ou to view parts of the broadcast data on the bottom line of the displa y . Press the Display button and repeat to cycle through the six different displa y modes. Scrolling text The default mode, displa ys scrolling text messages which accompan y the audio, where a vailable.
10 Storing and r ecalling presets The numbered buttons ( 1 - 6 ) enable y ou to store radio stations for one-touch access. T o stor e a station Y ou can store a station to a preset while listening it or w hen you see the station name on the bottom line of the displa y w hile scrolling through the station list.
11 Advanc ed setup options The EVOKE-1 has a number of ad vanced features w hich enable y ou to change the order and number of stations on the station list, perfor m manual tuning , apply Dynamic Range Control (DRC) and view the software v ersion.
12 Manual tune This option provides a signal le vel displa y which y ou can use to find the best position for y our radio and aerial. When y ou select this option, the bottom line of the displa y shows the channel identifier and frequency .
Resetting your EVOKE-1 A reset option is provided to enable y ou to reset y our unit. This removes all presets, stored stations and fa vourite station settings and resets all options to defaults.
Guide to digital r adio Y our EVOKE-1 enables y ou to receive and listen to D AB radio programmes. Digital Audio Broadcast (D AB) uses digital signals rath er than traditional analogue signals enabling near CD-quality audio with virtually interference-free reception.

16 T r oubl eshooting This section gives some of the most likely solutions to problems y ou might have with y our EV OKE-1. I can’t get any sound Make sure y our EVOKE-1 is plugg ed in and switched on as explained on pag e 7. Check that the volume is not set too lo w , see page 8 for details.
Y our EVOKE-1 is supplied with a telescopic D AB aerial. This is an indoor aerial w hich is designed to give g ood reception in are as with good to moderate D AB signal strength. In areas with poor D AB co verag e or poor signal strength y ou may want to consider using a loft mou nted or external aerial.
