3 1. iVO X – press and repeat to toggle speech on or off, or hold to s witch full speech on. 2. Standb y - press to switch betw een standby mode and po w er on. 3. Sleep - press and repeat to set y our radio to enter standby in 15, 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes.
4 Quick st art This section pro vides infor mation on ho w to set up and star t using y our radio. 1 Fully extend the aerial, connect the mains adapter and plug in to y our po w er supply . 2 Push the Standb y button to switch the unit on. The LCD lights up, the radio sa ys ‘W elcome to the PURE SONUS-1 XT with iV OX.
5 Using your SONUS-1 XT iVO X - Making your radio speak iV OX brings a new le v el of accessibility to y our radio providing speech assistance to help y ou navig ate menus, select stations, hear scrolling text and e ven check the time and alarm settings.
6 Spelling unknown st ations By default, if y our radio encounters a station for w hich it has no speech stored it will announce its name as ‘Unknown’, if prefer red y ou can set y our radio to spell out the name of new or unkno wn stations b y setting this option ‘On’.
7 Setting alarms SONUS-1 XT has tw o alar ms w hich s witch the radio on (if in standby) and tune to a station or sound a tone. Y ou can set alar ms when y our radio is on or in standb y as follows: 1. Press the Menu button and push the T une knob to select the Alar m settings option.
8 When finished, press the menu button or wait a moment and y ou’ll return to y our nor mal displa y mode. If y our displa y mode is set to Clock y ou will see a bell symbol on the screen and alar m time for each alarm that is set.
9 The alar m will automatically turn off after 60 minutes. T o cancel the snooze and the alar m push the T une button. Switch off Press the Standb y button to retur n to standb y and cancel the alar m. Switch on If it is a tone alar m press the T une button and the radio will switch on.
10 Rec or ding fr om your SONUS-1 XT Y ou can record from y our SONUS-1 XT using the Stereo Out or Digital Out sock ets. Y ou can also set a record timer to automatically switch y our unit on and tune.
11 These instr uctions will not set the record time on y our recorder . Some recorders can detect w hen a digital S/PDIF signal is present (synchro-record) or y ou ma y ha v e to set y our external recorder to star t recording at the same time.
12 Setup options Press the Menu button, tur n the T une knob and push to select one of the follo wing setup options. Some of these options are also av ailable from standby . Station or der Chang es the order i n w hic h stati ons ap pear as y ou scrol l thro ugh the stati on list .
13 Display settings T ur n the T une knob to view cur rent settings and push to chang e one of the follo wing . Brightness T o change the screen brightness turn the T une knob and push to choose betw een Lo w , High or Low/T imeout (backlight off until a button is pushed).
14 DRC value DRC (Dynamic Rang e Control) v alue mak es the quieter sounds in a broadcast easier to hear at lo w volume or in a noisy en vironment. The DRC le v el of a broadcast is set b y the station and sent with the signal. At the time of writing in the UK only BBC Radio 3 and 4 regular ly use DRC.
15 T uning T uning SONUS-1 XT is ver y simple. When y ou first switch on it automatically finds all the stations a v ailable in y our area. Y ou ma y want to re-tune if y ou mo v e y our radio to a different room or if y ou want to receive a new multiplex.
16 2. Mo ve y our aerial w hile watching the displa y and to tr y to raise the cur rent le vel to the empty block or be y ond. Once y ou ha v e a g ood signal the displa y will sho w the multiplex name and add the stations in that multiplex to the station list.
17 Demo mode This mode demonstrates the unique speech features of the SONUS-1 XT including accessing alar m times and station name announcement. Info modes are also demonstrated. While the unit is in demo mode a DEMO icon will appear on displa y . All controls will work as normal when demo mode is s witched on.

19 My alarm/timer didn’t work Check that y ou set the alar m or timer on (If displa y mode is set to clock y ou will see a timer or alar m icon on the displa y). Check that the station y ou are tuned to is av ailable – the clock/alar m/timer relies on the time signal broadcast b y the multiplexes.
