7 ASSEMBL Y T o hire an authorized service technician to assemble the treadmill, call toll-free 1-800-445-2480. Assembly requires two persons. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed.
8 4. Insert the Console Wire Harness (78) and the T V cab le into the Uprights (84) . Set the console assembly on the Uprights (84). Be care- ful to avoid pinch ing the Console Wire Harness (78) and the TV cable.
9 6. Place the treadmill in the storage position (see HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL on page 24). Next, place the cylinder end of the Shock (92) near the bracket on the base of the Uprights (84).
10 If you purchase the optional chest pulse sensor (see page 23), follow the steps below to install the receiver included with the chest pulse sensor. 1. Make sure that the key is removed from the con- sole and that the power cord is unplugged. Remove the indicated Screws (3) from the back of the Console Base (85).
1 1 HOW TO CONNECT AN ANTENNA Indoor Antenna 1. Place a VHF antenna in the desired loca- tion. Connect the 300 ohm fl at wire from the antenna to a 300 ohm to 75 ohm adapter. 2. Push the 300 ohm to 75 ohm adapter onto the 75 ohm an- tenna terminal on the treadmill frame near the power cord.
OPERA TION AND ADJUSTMENT T HE PRE-LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with high- performance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply sil- icone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform. Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear.
13 FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effec- tive and enjo yable. When the manual mode of the con- sole is selected, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button.
14 H OW TO TURN ON THE POWER Plug in the power cord (see page 12). Next, locate the reset /off circuit breaker near the power cord. Make sure that the circuit breaker is in the reset position.
15 The right display —This display will show the dis- t ance that you have walked or run, the speed of the w alking belt, the incline level of the treadmill, your pace (in minutes per mile), and the approximate num- bers of calories and fat calories you have burned (see FAT BURNING on page 29).
16 H OW TO USE A PRESET PROGRAM I nsert the key into the console. S ee HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 14. Select a preset program. To select a preset program, press the Program (PRGM.) button repeatedly until “P-1,” “P-2,” “P-3,” “P-4,” “P-5,” “P-6,” “P-7,” or “P-8” appears in the right display.
17 F ollow your progress with the displays. See step 5 on page 14. Measure your heart rate if desired. See step 6 on page 15. Turn on the fan if desired. See step 7 on page 15. When you are finished exercising, remove the key from the console. When the program ends, make sure that the in- cline of the treadmill is at the lowest setting.
18 H OW TO USE A HEART RATE PROGRAM During heart rate program 9, your heart rate will reach a pproximately 85% of your a ge-predicted maximum heart rate. (Note: Your age-predicted maximum heart rate is calculated by subtracting your age from 220. For example, if you are 30 years old, your age-pre- dicted maximum heart rate is 190 beats per minute).
19 If heart rate program 9 is selected, the target heart r ate setting for the first seg- ment will be shown in the f lashing Current Segment column of the matrix. The target heart rate settings for the next several segments will be shown in the columns to the right.
20 H OW TO CREATE A CUSTOM PROGRAM I nsert the key into the console. S ee HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 14. Select a custom program. To select a custom program, press the Programs (PRGM.) button repeatedly until “P-11” or “P-12” appears in the right display.

22 H OW TO OPERATE THE PERSONAL TELEVISION IMPORTANT: Before operating the television, you must connect an antenna, a 75 ohm CATV cable, or a VCR to the 75 ohm antenna terminal on the tread- m ill. See page 11 for instructions. Follow the steps below to operate the television.
23 Press the On/Off button again and add or delete channels. After all valid channels available in your area have been saved into the television’s memory (see step 5 below), you can manually add channels or delete unwanted channels. To add or delete a channel, first press the Channel buttons until the desired channel number appears on the screen.
24 HOW T O FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be per- m anently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds (20 kg) to raise, lower, or move the treadmill.
25 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1. Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand. Pull the latch knob to the left and hold it. Pivot the frame down until the catch is past the latch pin. 2. Hold the metal frame firmly with both hands , and lower it to the floor.
26 TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, please see the front cover of this manual. PROBLEM: The power does not turn on SOLUTION: a.
With the help of a second person, carefully raise the Uprights (84) to the position shown. Carefu lly pi vot th e H ood (41) off. Locate the Reed Switch (63) and the Magnet (46) on the left side of the Pulley (47). Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch.
28 PROBLEM: Television reception is poor S OLUTION: a . For the television to operate properly, good reception is necessary. If you are using an antenna, make sure that it is properly connected and adjusted for optimal reception. (See HOW TO CON- N ECT AN ANTENNA on page 11.
29 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex- ercise program. For more detailed exercise informa- tion, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician.
30 SUGGESTED STRETCHES T he correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1 . Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
