1 FC - 446 - 021 -U.DOC Description: The FC- 446 - 02 1-U is an adjustable f iber optic adapter designed fo r use with SpectraPr o series monochromators and spect rographs. It includes an integrated horizon tal and vertical adjust ment mechanism desig ned to position fib ers at the slit opening.
2 FC - 446 - 021 -U.DOC Fiber Cable Adaptability : The asse m bl y is compatible with 10 mm diameter fib er optic bundles, SMA connectors, and FC con nectors.
3 FC - 446 - 021 -U.DOC The following procedure is recommended fo r installing and aligning the FC - 44 6- 021 -U and fiber optic bu ndles. 1. Remove the entrance slit sh ipping cover to ex pose the s lit baff le as shown below. 2. Using a flat-bladed screwdrive r, remove the 4 slotted screws f rom the sli t assembly.
4 FC - 446 - 021 -U.DOC 4. Mount the fiber optic input assembly with the 4 X 8- 32 X 3/8 ” socket head cap screws provid ed. Fiber Cable and ada pters: The re are 4 diff erent fiber cable/adapter set up configu rations available f or the input of the FC - 446 - 021 -U adapter asse m b ly.
5 FC - 446 - 021 -U.DOC Set Up 1: FC Fibe r Cable If the fiber cable h as a single FC fibe r, attach the FC adap ter as shown below . S ingle fiber FC Cable FC Cable attached to FC Adapter Gently slide the ca ble/fiber asse m bly in to the fiber optic in put assembly so the end of the f iber adapter contacts the slits.
6 FC - 446 - 021 -U.DOC Set Up 2: SMA Fi ber Cable If the fiber cable h as a single SMA fi ber, attach the S MA adapter as shown below. Si ng le Fiber SMA Cable SMA Cable atta ched to SMA Adap ter Gently slide the ca ble/fiber assembly in to the fiber op tic input assembly so the end of the f iber adapter contacts the slits.
7 FC - 446 - 021 -U.DOC Set Up 3: 10 mm Dia m eter Sleeve with a single fiber Install the 10 mm sleeve to th e X- Y adapter and lock it into place b y tightening down the 3 set scre ws surrounding the adapter.
8 FC - 446 - 021 -U.DOC Set Up 4: 10 mm Dia m eter Sleeve with multiple fibers alig ned in a row Install the 10 mm sleeve to th e X- Y adapter and lock it into place b y tightening down the 3 set scre ws surrounding the adapter. Note the orientatio n of the fibers in the sleeve of the f iber cable.
