2 General: The Acton M odel 300-749 is a Remote Scan Controller for the Acton 300i and 500i monochromator/spectrographs. Functions include GOTO for rapidly m oving the monochrom ator to a specific cen.
3 If this menu is not shown, press the right arrow key (green) followed by the “library ” key (2) and press the key under the box labeled SP300. This should bring up the menu shown above. This menu indicates there are two main selections for operation: SP300 selects the menu for normal SP300i/500i operation.
4 GRAT: Press the function key below the GRAT com mand. The following screen is shown: > 1 1200 g/mm Blz = 500 2 600 g/mm Blz= 750 3 150 g/mm Blz = 300 1 2 3 T2 T3 The arrow by the number indicates which grating is now in place. To select another grating, press the function key below the 1, 2 or 3 grating label.
5 SLITS: Pressing the function key below the SLITS label will allow control of the motorized slits. The following menu is display ed: Slits: Side Entr: 250 µ m Front Entr: no slit Front Exit: 1000 µ m Side Exit: 10 µ m SID N FRT X SID X QUIT To adjust the width of a particular slit press the function key below the desired slit.
6 Select the GRAT function and enter the position number of the grating to be installed. Select the GROV function and enter the groove density in g/m m ( e.g. 1200) Select the BLAZE function and enter the blaze wavelength for the grating to be installed.
7 Display s the model number of the monochrom ator for approximately 5 seconds and then returns to the utility menu. Press NXT to get to the remaining functions of this menu. HOME: This function is used to initialize the monochromator wavelength and the motorized slits.
8 Software Reinstallation: The software fo r the Acton 300-749 Remote Scan is installed at the factory when the 300-749 is purchased. If, however, the software needs to be reinstalled for any reason, the enclosed disk contains all the files necessary for complete soft ware installation.
9 Create a directory on the computer hard disk labeled SP300 and copy all files from the installation disk to this directory . Change directory to SP300 and ty pe KERMIT <cr>. In kermit, ty pe SET BAUD 9600 <cr>. In kermit, ty pe SET PORT 1 <cr>.
10 On the HP-48, press F (RECV). ( The HP48 is now "Connecting"). In kermit, ty pe S INSTALL <cr>. ( The code will be sent to the HP-48 in 5 packets, and a beep will sound at the end of transmission.) In kermit, ty pe Q <cr>. This returns to DOS.
