Owner’s Manual: EFX Features 10 Using the Stationary Handrail T o maintain your balance, always gr asp a st ationary handrail when you step on or off the foot pedals, and when you use the keypad. T o learn more about the touc h-sensitive grips on t he E FX, refer to Heart R ate Fea tures .
Owner’s Manual: EFX Features 11 Location It is import ant to keep a minimum of one fo ot (30 cm) around the E FX open and free from encumbrances such as other equipment. C AUTION: The E FX is not equipped with wheels and should be assembled in the loca tion where you plan to use it.
Owner’s Manual: Heart Rate Features 12 Heart Rate F eatures Heart rate and SmartRate ® features are available when you grasp both touch-sensitive grips. W hen a heartbeat is detected, the H EART RA TE display shows your heart rate and, if your age has been entered, the SmartRate display pulses and indicates your current heart rate zone.

The heart rate analysis is based on how often your heart rate signal is received while exercising.

Owner’s Manual: Display Console 21 Key s Use the keys to enter your exercise sessi on selections, to affect what appears on the display , and to establish your CrossRamp and resistance preferences. User Keys T o personalize your exercise session, press a USE R key (1 or 2) at the Precor banner .

Owner’s Manual: User Identi fication 23 User Identification Choosing a user identification (US E R) key enables the E FX to identify you. Once you configure your US E R key, you can personalize your exercise session and store information about your prefer red program, session time, weight, and age.

Owner’s Manual: Workout Options 30 P ausing During a W orkout or the Cool-Down P eriod Stop pedaling to pause anytime duri ng a workout or during a cool-down period. T he paus e mode has a default time limit of 10 minutes. If you do not resume exercising during that time, the display returns to the banner .

For more information, refer to Select ing a Program . The program descriptions are prese nted in menu selection order .

Owner’s Manual: Programs 33 W eight Loss Program The W eight Loss Progr am (P2) is targeted at lowering body fat while im proving muscle ton e and conditioning. Use this program if you are beginning or returning to a regular fitness routine. T he exercise session time is fi xed at 28 minutes and consists of seven 4-minute in tervals.
Owner’s Manual: Programs 34 CrossT rainer Program The CrossT r ainer Program (P4) has preprogrammed CrossRa mp sett ings and a n initial resistance of 1. The progr am consi sts of opti mized Cro ssRamp s ettings combined with alternating forward and bac kw ard pedaling movements that focus on working the thi gh, gluteal, and calf muscle groups.
Owner’s Manual: Programs 35 Hill Climb P rogram The Hill Climb Program (P6) has preprogrammed CrossRa mp setting s in a fixed pattern. It is designed to increase muscle tone, cardio -conditionin g, and endurance over several weeks.
Owner’s Manual: Programs 36 Heart Rate Program The Basic H R C Progr am (P8) adjusts the resist ance to maintain your heart r ate within two beats per minute of the target heart r ate while you exercise.
Owner’s Manual: Programs 37 • The program sets the default target heart r ate as 7 0% of 220 minus your age. Cha nging your stride rate or CrossRamp affects the unit’s ability to maint ain your target heart r ate in the preferre d zone. It takes time for the E FX to readjust the resistance so that your heart rate remains on target.
