17 The inverter does not require a ny program m i n g; it has been pre-program med from the factory. Th e buttons on t h e face of t h e i nv erter shou ld never be pushed at any time. Us e o n ly t h e con trols on th e front of the h eadstock.
18 9.3 Tool su ppor t A 14” tool support is provided with your lat h e. It is designed to allow adjus tment for hei g ht, position on th e bed, and an gle to the work. Loosen locking han dle on tool support base (C, Figure 25) to slide su pport base f orward or back, an d to an gle it to the bed.
19 9.7 Center s: In stalling/remov ing 1. Disconnect lat h e f rom po w er s ource. 2. To install a s pur center or live center (a s pur center shoul d fir s t be moun ted to yo u r workpiece; see sect ion 11.4 ), clean tapered end of ce n ter and i nside of h ead stock taper spindl e, then push ce n ter into headstock spindle.

23 Figure 35 Basi c Turning Tools For safety and best perform ance, keep tools sharp . If a tool stops cutting or requires exce s sive pressure to make a cut, i t needs to be sharpened. A nu m ber of bran d name sharpening jigs and f ix t u res are available; h ow ev er, a w oodtu r n er should l ear n to sharpen tools freehand.

26 11. 6. 1 M ounting Stock Use of a face plate is the most comm on m eth od for holding a block of wood f or turnin g bowls and plates: 1. Select stock at leas t 1/8" to 1/4" larger than each dimension on the fini sh ed workpiece. 2.
27 A 1/4" bowl gouge is best suited f or s maller bowl s and light finishing cuts. Larger 3/4" and 1" bowl gouges are only used for e x t remely large piece s . Large domed scrapers can also be used to help clean up the in terio r surfaces of bowls .
