4 ASSEMBL Y OPERA T OR’S POSITION (See Fig. 1) When right or left hand is mentioned in this manual, it means when you are in the oper ating position (standing behind tiller handles). Y our new tiller has been assemb led at the factory with exception of those par ts left unassemb led for shipping purposes.

8 T O TRANSPORT CA UTION: Before lifting or trans por t ing, allow tiller engine and m uffl er to cool. Disconnect spark plug wire. Drain gasoline from fuel tank. AROUND THE Y ARD • Tip depth stake f orward until it is held by the stak e spring. • Push tiller handles down, raising tines off the g round.
9 e ng in e_a rt_ 7 1 BREAKING IN Y OUR TILLER Break-in your belt(s), pulle ys and tine control before y ou actually begin tilling. • Star t engine, tip tines off ground b y pressing handles down and engage tine control to star t tine rotation. Allow tines to rotate f or fi ve min utes.

13 TILLER T O ADJUST HANDLE HEIGHT (See Fig. 15) F actor y assemb ly has provided low est handle height. Se lect handle height best suited f or your tilling conditions. Handle height will be diff erent when tiller digs into soil. • If a higher handle height is desired, loosen the f our nuts securing handle panel to engine brack ets.
14 TINE OPERA TION CHECK (See Fig. 19) W ARNING: Disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug to pre vent star ting while chec king tine operation. F or proper tine operation, forw ard tine control lev er must be against control body and all slack remo ved from inner wire of control cable when control is in the “OFF” (up) position.

16 ST ORA GE ENGINE OIL Drain oil (with engine warm) and replace with clean oil. (See “ENGINE” in the Maintenance section of this man ual). CYLINDER(S) • Remov e spark plug. • P our 1 ounce (29 ml) of oil through spar k plug hole into cylinder .
