5 ASSEMBL Y • Grasp handle assembly . Hold in “up” position. Be sure handle lock remains in gearcase notch. Slide handle assembly into position. 10 RUN C H O K E OPERA TION • Soil conditions are impor tant for proper tilling. Tines will not readily penetrate dry , hard soil which may con tr ib ute to e xcessiv e bounce and diffi cult handling of your tiller . Hard soil should be mois tened bef ore tilling; howe ver , e xtremely wet soil will “ball-up” or clump dur ing tilling.
11 MAINTENANCE GENERAL RECOMMEND A TIONS The warr anty on this tiller does not cov er items that hav e been subjected to operator ab use or negligence. T o receive full v alue from the warranty , the operator must main tain tiller as instructed in this manual.
12 MAINTENANCE OIL FILLER PLUG OIL LEVEL OIL DRAIN PLUG FIG. 16 Disconnect spark plug wire before perf orming an y maintenance (except car bu re tor adjustment) to prevent accidental start ing of engine. Prevent fi res! Keep the engine free of grass, leaves, spilled oil, or fuel.

14 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS CA UTION: Disconnect spark plug wire fr om spark plug and place wire where it cannot come into contact with plug. TILLER T O ADJUST HANDLE HEIGHT (See Fig. 20) Select handle height best suited f or your tilling conditions .

18 ST ORA GE ENGINE OIL Drain oil (with engine w ar m) and replace with clean oil. (See “ENGINE” in the Maintenance section of this man ual). CYLINDER(S) • Remov e spark plug. • P our 1 ounce (29 ml) of oil through spark plug hole into cylinder .
19 Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se ver al minutes bef ore attempting to star t. 4. Dir ty air cleaner . 4. Clean or replace air cleaner car tridge.
