11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thro wn into the ey es, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Alwa ys wear safety glass es or ey e shields while operating your tractor or per for m ing any adjustments or repairs.
12 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across an y slope. • Choose the slo west speed bef ore star ting up or down hills. • A v oid stopping or changing speed on hills.
13 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 5) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mo v e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.
14 FIG. 10 MO WING TIPS • Mower should be properly lev eled for best mowing per- f ormance. See “T O LEVEL MOWER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mow er should be used f or trim- ming. • Drive so that clippings are discharged onto the area that has been cut.
15 MULCHING MO WING TIPS IMPORT ANT : FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, KEEP MOWER HOUSING FREE OF BUIL T -UP GRASS AND TRASH. CLEAN AFTER EA CH USE. • The spe cial mulch ing blade will recut the gr ass clip- pings many times and reduce them in size so that as they f all onto the lawn they will disperse into the g rass and not be noticed.

17 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 12) • Raise mower to highest position to allow access to bla d e s. • Remov e blade bolt, lock washer and fl at was he r se cur ing bla d e. • Install new or reshar pened blade with tr ailing edge up tow ards deck as sho wn.
18 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able. Re place belts if they begin to slip from wear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
19 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whiche v er occurs fi rst.

26 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor f or storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 da ys or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
27 PROBLEM CA USE CORRECTION TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” proper ly . 2. See “T O ST AR T ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se v eral minutes bef ore attempting to start.
