7 BEFORE ST AR TING ENGINE ADD OIL Y our lawnmow er is shipped without oil in the engine. F or type and grade of oil to use, see “EN GINE” in the Maintenance section of this manual. CA UTION: DO NO T ov erfi ll engine with oil, or it will smoke hea vily from the muffl er on star tup.
8 • F or extremely hea vy cutting, re duce the width of cut by o ver lap ping pre viously cut path and mow slo wly . • F or better grass bagging and most cut- ting conditions, the engine speed should be set in the F AST po si tion.

10 LA WN MO WER Alwa ys obser ve saf ety rules when per- fo r m ing any main te nance . TIRES • K eep tires free of gasoline, oil, or insect control chemi cals which can har m r ubber . • A void stumps , stones, deep ruts, shar p objects and other hazards that ma y cause tire damage.
11 T O CHANGE ENGINE OIL NO TE : Bef ore tipping lawn mow er to drain oil, empty fuel tank b y r unning en- gine until fuel tank is empty . 1. Disconnect spark plug wire from spar k plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with plug. 2. Remov e engine oil cap; la y aside on a clean surf ace.
12 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS W ARNING: T o a void serious injur y , before per fo r m ing any service or ad just ments: 1. Release control bar and stop engine. 2. Mak e sure the blade and all moving par ts hav e completely stopped. 3. Disconnect spark plug wire from spar k plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with plug.
13 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your la wn mower f or storage at the end of the season or if the unit will not be used f or 30 days or more . Low er handle SQUEEZE T O FOLD FOLD FOR W ARD FOR ST ORAG.
14 ENGINE OIL Drain oil (with engine w ar m) and replace with clean engine oil. (See “ENGINE” in the Maintenance section of this manual). CYLINDER 1. Remov e spark plug. 2. P our 29 ml of oil through spar k plug hole into cylinder . 3. Pull star ter handle slowly a f ew times to dis trib ute oil.
