11 NO TE: Under cer tain conditions when tractor is standing idle with the engine running, hot engine exhaust gases ma y cause “brown ing” of grass.
12 T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes great er than 15° and do not drive across an y slope . • Choose the slo west speed before starting up or down hills. • A void stopping or changing speed on hills . • If slowing is necessary , mov e throttle control lev er to slower position.
13 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 7) When star ting the engine f or the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Sit on seat in operating position, depress clutch/brake pedal and set parking brake .
14 MO WING TIPS • Mower should be proper ly lev eled for best mowing per- fo r mance. See "TO LEVEL MO WER HOUSING" in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this man ual. • The left hand side of mower should be used f or tr im- ming. • Drive so that clippings are discharged onto the area that has been cut.

17 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts f or deterioration and wear after 100 hours and replace if necessar y . The belts are not adjustab le. Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear . TRANSAXLE COOLING K eep transaxle free from build-up of dirt and chaff which can restrict cooling.
18 MAINTENANCE CLEANING • Clean engine, batter y , seat, fi nish, etc. of all f oreign matter . • Keep fi nished surf aces and wheels free of all gasoline, oil, etc.

23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS 01536 T O REPLA CE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. • Replace bulb in holder and push b ulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the grill.
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a b uilding where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “TO ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. W ait sev eral minutes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spark plug.
