8 INST ALL MULCHER PLA TE (See Figs. 4) • Install two latch hooks to mulcher plate using screw , washer , lock w asher , and weld nut as sho wn. NO TE: Pre-assemble weld nut to latch hook b y in sert ing weld nut from the top with hook pointing do wn.

11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thr own into the e yes, which can result in severe e ye dam age . Al wa ys wear safety glass es or eye shields while operating your tractor or per for m ing any adjustments or repair s.
12 OPERA TION T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes greater than 15° and do not drive across an y slope . • Choose the slowest speed bef ore star ting up or down hills. • A void stopping or changing speed on hills.
13 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 5) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cr anking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the transmission en gaged position.

15 MULCHING MO WING TIPS IMPORT ANT: FOR BEST PERFORMANCE, KEEP MOWER HOUSING FREE OF BUIL T -UP GRASS AND TRASH. CLEAN AFTER EA CH USE. • The spe cial mulch ing blade will recut the grass clip- pings many times and reduce them in size so that as they f all onto the lawn the y will disperse into the grass and not be noticed.

17 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 12) • Raise mow er to highest position to allow access to bla d e s. • Remov e blade bolt, lock washer and fl at was he r se cur ing bla d e. • Install new or resharpened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as sho wn.
18 MAINTENANCE V- B E L T S Check V -belts f or deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able. Re place belts if the y begin to slip from wear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
19 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e v er y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.

23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REMO VE WHEEL FOR REP AIRS (See Fig. 26) • Block up axle securely . • Remov e axle cov er , retaining ring and washers to allow wheel remov al (rear wheel contains a square key - Do not lose). • Repair tire and reassemble .
24 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O REPLA CE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. • Replace b ulb in holder and push b ulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the gr ill. • Close hood.
25 ENGINE T O AD JUST THR O TTLE CON TROL CABLE (See Fig. 30) The throttle control has been preset at the f actor y and ad just ment should not be necessar y . Check adjustment as described below bef ore loosening cable . If adjustment is necessar y , proceed as follows: • With engine not running, move throttle control le ver to f ast position.
26 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor f or storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
27 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” proper ly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se v eral minutes bef ore attempting to star t. 4. Bad spark plug.
