11 OPERA TION The operation of any tractor can result in f oreign objects thrown into the e yes, which can result in severe e ye dam age. Alwa ys wear safety glass es or eye shields while operating y our trac- tor or per form ing any adjustments or repairs.
12 BEFORE ST ARTING THE ENGINE CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL • The engine in y our tractor has been shipped, from the f actor y , already fi lled with sum mer weight oil.
13 ADD GASOLINE • Fill fuel tank to bottom of fi ller neck. Do not ov erfi ll. Use fresh, clean, regular un lead ed gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane . (Use of leaded gasoline will increase carbon and lead o xide deposits and reduce valv e life).

16 MAINTENANCE BLADE REMO V AL (See Fig. 9) • Raise mower to highest position to allo w access to blades . • Remov e blade bolt, lock w asher and fl at washer se cur ing blade . • Install new or resharpened blade with trailing edge up tow ards deck as sho wn.
17 02463 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts for deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able. Re place belts if they begin to slip from wear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
18 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or damage. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e v er y 100 hours of operation, whiche ver occurs fi rst.
