Introduction About the Portsmith Ethernet Cradle The Portsmith Ethernet Cradl e is a netw ork connectivity accessory for Pal m OS™ PDA's. Throu gh our Etherne t Cradle, users can download or sy nchronize with c orporate network data, server-resident data, or access a live Internet connection.
Chapter 1 Preparing to Use the Portsmith Ethernet Cradle Installation Overview Before using t he Portsmit h Ethernet Cradle, you and your networ k system admini strator must properly configure yo ur hardware and software. Belo w is a summ ary of the steps required for proper confi guration.
Chapter 2 Installing and Using the Portsmith Cradle Driver on Your PDA The Portsmith Cradle Driver must be insta lled and configured on the PDA befo re the PDA can communicate through the Ethernet cradle.
Operation of the Portsmith Cradle Driver The Portsm ith Cradle Driver i s designed t o prov ide seamless TCP/IP connectivity without user intervention. The dr iver automatically prov ides the following functio ns: • • • • • • • s Detection of the PDA’s presen ce in a Portsmith Ethernet Cradle.
Firmware Ver: If the PDA is in a Portsmith Ethernet Cradle, this will show the current firm ware version installed on the Portsmith Ethernet Cradle. Driver Ver: The current ve rsion of the Po rtsm ith Cradle Driver on the PDA. Driver Mode: This item allows the user to configure the cu rrent mode of the Portsmith Cradle Driver.

DHCP Server: An acronym for Dynam ic Host Configurat ion Protocol. A server that assigns an IP Address to the Portsmith Ethe rnet Cradle so i t can access the Internet and the network.
