8 If an extension cord is used, make sure the conductor size is large enough to prevent excessive voltage drop which will cause loss of power and possible motor damage.
9 FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION FOREWORD Model 7549 Bayonet Saw is designed for cutting materials of the following MAXIMUM thickness: wood 2 1 / 2 ", aluminum 3 / 4 ", steel 1 / 4 ". SELECTING THE BLADE To obtain best results with your Porter-Cable bayonet saw, it is important that you use the right blade for the job.
10 5. Tighten blade screw approximately one turn and pull down on blade. Blade should not pull out of clamp. 6. Tighten blade screw securely. 7 . Slide both blade guides, Fig. 1, towards blade until they lightly contact the sides of the blade, then back the guides off to produce paper thickness clearance per side.
11 Fig. 3 CLAMP BLADE HOLDER SHAFT BLADE SCREW CLAMP SCREW 2. Insert screwdriver behind blade holder shaft, (see Fig. 4), and move shaft forward to allow assembly of clamp. Position clamp on blade holder shaft as shown in Fig. 4, and tighten clamp screw; then loosen clamp screw 1 / 4 turn.
12 OPERA TION TO ST AR T AND STOP SAW Make sure power circuit voltage is the same as shown on the specification plate on the saw, and that saw switch is OFF. Connect saw to power circuit. 1. Squeeze trigger switch (A), Fig. 5, to start motor. Release trigger to stop motor.
13 CHIP BLOWER This saw is equipped with a chip blower to keep the cutting area free of chips. This blower may be switched “ON” or “OFF” by moving lever (A), Fig. 8, to the “OPEN” position (blower “ON”) or the “CLOSED” position (blower “OFF”).
14 First, measure the area to be cut out and mark it clearly with a pencil chalk or scriber. Choose a convenient starting point and hold the bayonet saw over the point and inside the line of waste.
15 KEEP TOOL CLEAN Periodically blow out all air passages with dry compressed air. All plastic parts should be cleaned with a soft damp cloth. NEVER use solvents to clean plastic parts. They could possibly dissolve or otherwise damage the material. Wear ANSI Z87.
