1 Thank you for choosing SoundPoint ® IP 600 SIP , a full-duplex, hands-free phone running the industry standard Ses- sion Initiation Protocol (SIP). This unit provides b usiness telephony features and functions such as Multiple Call Appear - ances, Call Hold, T ransfer , and Confer - ence ov er an IP network.
2 Installing SoundPoint ® IP 600 SIP This section provides basic installation instructions and information for obtaining the best performance with the Sound- Point ® IP 600 SIP phone. If you require additional information or assistance with your new phone, please contact your sys - tem administrator .
3 Connecting the Handset and Optional Headset Attaching the Base (Optional) 1. Connect the short, straight end of the phone cord to the handset and the corresponding longer straight end of the cord to the handset jack on the back of the phone. 2. Connect the headset (optional accessory) to the headset jack on the back of the phone.

6 Placing a Call Using the Handset: 1. T o obtain dial tone, pick up the handset. 2. Dial the desired number . OR Dial by SIP URL/IP address † : • After obtaining dial tone, press Name • Enter URL or IP (press * for “. ” and # or “@”) • Press Send to complete the call.

9 Call Timer Call duration on an activ e call is monitored through a local call timer . This is visible within the activ e call window on the display .

1 1 Ring Type Many ring types are a vailable. Users can select different rings to distinguish be - tween lines or to hav e a different ring from their neighbor’ s phone.

14 Multiple Call Appear ances Each line on the phone can be configured to hav e one or more call appearances. More than one call appearance is useful if there is an activ e call and an incoming call arriv es on the same line. In the example sho wn, extension 9301 is in an outbound call with 9304.
15 Shared Lines The phone supports shared lines ** . A shared line is indicated by a different line icon. In the diagram, the first line is priv ate and the second line is shared. If two phones share a line, an incoming call to that number will cause both phones to ring.
16 Distinctiv e Ringing / Call T r ea tment Users can set distinctiv e incoming ringing tones for contacts in their local directory . This allows identifica - tion of a contact by a specific ring tone. T o set a distinctiv e ring for a local contact: 1.
17 T ext Messaging Users can send and receiv e T ext messages on the phone. SIP Instant (T ext) Messag - ing is supported in real-time. Receiv ed messages will be indicated by a flashing Message W aiting Indicator LED on the front of the phone and optionally a visual notification on the display .

20 No Dial-T one V erify power is correctly applied to the SoundPoint ® IP 600 SIP phone: • Check that the display is illuminated. • Make sure the LAN cable is inserted properly at the rear of the phone (try unplugging and re-inserting the cable).
21 No Response from F eature K ey Pr esses V erify phone is in active state: • Make a call to the phone to check for inbound call display and ring- ing as normal. If successful, try to press feature keys within the call to access Directory or Buddy Status for example.
