1 Thank you for choosing the SoundPoint ® IP 500/501 SIP , a full-duplex, hands- free phone. This unit pro vides business telephony features and functions such as Multiple Call Appearances, Call Hold, T ransfer , and Conference over an IP network. In this User Guide, you will find ev erything you need to quickly use your new phone.
2 Installing SoundPoint ® IP 500/501 SIP This section provides basic installation instructions and information for obtaining the best performance with the Sound- Point ® IP 500/501 SIP phone. If you re- quire additional information or assistance with your new phone, please contact your system administrator .
3 LAN PC HEADSET HANDSET Connecting the Handset and Optional Headset Attaching the Base (Optional) 1. Connect the short straight end of the phone cord to the handset and the corresponding longer straight end of the cord to the handset jack on the back of the phone.
4 Line/Speed Dial Keys Use these keys to activate up to three lines or speed dials that can be assigned to your phone. Speakerphone Microphone Mute Headset Feature Keys Access important features using these keys.

6 Placing a Call Using the Handset: 1. T o obtain dial tone, pick up the hand - set. 2. Dial the desired number , OR Dial by SIP URL or IP † address: • After obtaining dial tone press Name • Enter URL or IP (press * for “. ” and # for “@”) • Press Send to complete the call.

1 1 T ime and Date is clearly displayed on the SoundPoint ® IP 500/501 SIP phone. If the phone cannot obtain a time and date from the server , the display will flash. Contact your system administrator if either time or date is incorrect. Users hav e control over the format of the display and can turn it off.
12 Ring Type Many ring types are a vailable. Users can select different rings to distinguish be - tween lines or to hav e a different ring from their neighbor’ s phone.
13 4. Enter the Contact number . This is a required field and it must be unique (not already in the direc- tory). 5. Speed Dial Index, Ring T ype and Div ert Contact may be left blank.
14 SoundPoint ® IP 500/501 SIP can support up to three lines, each associated with its own line key . Lines can be configured for local Directory Numbers (DNs), such as your main extension and priv ate or shared lines. T ypically , the top-most line key is reserved for the principal DN of the phone.
15 Multiple Call Appear ances Each line on the phone can be configured to hav e one or more call appearances. This is useful if there is an activ e call and an incoming call arriv es on the same line. In the example sho wn, extension 9301 is in an outbound call with 9304.
16 * V oice Mail is an optional featur e configur ed on the server and may not be supported on your particular system. Contact your system adminis- trator to find out. † Scr een options may vary with server-based application. V oice Mail can be accessed with a single ke y press.

18 T ext Messaging Users can send and receiv e T ext messages on the phone. SIP Instant (T ext) Mes - saging is supported in real-time. Users can send and receiv e text messages using their phones.

20 No Dial-T one T roubleshooting V erify power is correctly applied to the SoundPoint ® IP 500/501 SIP phone: • Check that the display is illumi - nated. • Make sure the LAN cable is insert - ed properly at the rear of the phone (try unplugging and re-inserting the cable).
21 Display shows “Netw or k Link is Down” V erify LAN cable is properly connected: • Check termination at the switch or hub (furthest end of the cable from the phone). • Check that the switch or hub is operational (flashing link/status lights) or contact your System Administrator .
