Chapter 1 15 NOTE: When using the touchpad, keep it - and your fingers - dry and clean. Th e touchpad is sensitive to finger movements; hence, the lighter the t ouch, the better the response. T apping too hard will not in crease the touchpad’ s responsiveness.
16 Chapter 1 Using the Keyboard The keyboard has full-sized keys and an embedd ed keypad, separate cursor keys, one Windows key and twelve function keys. Lock Keys and embedded numeric keypad The keyboard has three lock keys which yo u can toggle on and off.
Chapter 1 17 Hot Keys The computer employs hotkeys or key combinations to access most of the computer ’s controls like screen brightness, volume output, and the BIOS utility . T o activate hot keys, press and hold the < Fn> key before pressing the other key in the hotkey combination.

Chapter 2 39 BIOS Setup Utility The BIOS Setup Utility is a hardware configuration prog ram built into y our computer ’s BIOS (Basic Input/ Output System). Y our computer is alre ady properly configured and optimi zed, and you do not need to run this utility .
40 Chapter 2 Navigating the BIOS Utility There are seven menu options: Info., Main, Syst em Devices, Security , Power , Boot, and Exit. Follow these instructions: T T o choose a menu, use the cursor left/right keys ( zx ). T T o choose an option, use the cursor up/down keys ( wy ).

Chapter 2 49 Power The Power screen displays a su mmary of your comput er power settings, and al so includes advanced setup parameters. It allows the user to enable and dis able the power management op tions on the computer and specify standard power parameters for specific components.

54 Chapter 3 General Information Before Y ou Begin Before proceeding with the disassembly procedure, make su re that you do the following: 1. T urn off the power to the system and all peripherals. 2. Unplug the AC adapter and all power and signal cables from the system.

Chapter 3 57 Removing the Battery Pack 1. Unlock the battery lock (move th e battery lock to the ri ght). 2. Slide the battery release latch then remove the battery .

70 Chapter 4 System Check Procedures External Diskette Drive Check Do the following to isolate the pro blem to a controller, dr iver , or diskette. A write-ena bled, diagnostic diskette is required. NOTE: Make sure that the diskette does not have more than on e label attached to it.

Memory check Memory errors might stop system operations, show error messages on the screen, or hang the system. 1. Boot from the diagnostics diskette and start the di agnostic program (please refer to main board).

Chapter 4 85 Intermittent Problems Intermittent system hang problems can be caused by a variety of reasons that have nothin g to do with a hardware defect, such as: cosmic radiation, electros tatic discharge, or software errors. FRU replacement should be considered only when a recurring prob lem exists.
86 Chapter 4 Undetermined Problems The diagnostic proble ms does not identify wh ich adapter or device failed, which in stalled devices are incorrect, whether a short circuit is suspected, or whether the system is inoperative.
