AVR430 7 8124C -AVR-10/08 3.1.1 Phase area Each ph ase has its own area with a fr ame draw n on silkscreen. In Figure 3-2 th e area for phase ‘V’ is show n, and everyth ing inside this frame regard s this phase o nly. Figure 3-2. Phase ‘V ’ area on MC30 0 PCB.
8 A VR 430 8124C -AVR-10/08 4 Detailed description 4.1 Power The MC300 has two pow er circuits. Vin for powering dr iver ICs and volt age regulator s, and Vmotor (V m) for powering th e output stage (MO SFETs). The sep arate power supply for the motor, Vm, allows th e use o f motor voltages outside the voltage range of th e driver ICs.
AVR430 9 8124C -AVR-10/08 4.1.4 Hall sensor s VHall (V Ha) is availabl e on J7 as po wer source for Hall sens ors, typicall y found on BLDC m otors. W ith J1 VH a c an be conn ected to Vc c or to a 5V re gulator (U2) .
10 A VR 430 8124C -AVR-10/08 4.3 Shunts The board is shipped with a co mmon shunt r esistor (ShCo m - R62) of 0 ,050 ohm and the four phase s hunt re sistors are zero ohm resistors, shown in Figure 4-3. Th is allows for measureme nt of the tota l current going to ground v ia all half bridge s.
AVR430 11 8124C -AVR-10/08 4.4 Back-EMF For s ensorless applicatio ns, the driving log ic uses back EMF f rom t he mo tor’s ph ases to k eep tr ack of the moto r position. To observe t he back EMF from a phase, the phase is le ft floating, i.e. with the high or low s ide MOS not po wered, an d the vo ltage on the phas e is read.
12 A VR 430 8124C -AVR-10/08 4.5 Upgrading the MC300 As the boa rd is shipp ed, its limitati ons are Vm max =40V and Im max =6A. These lim its can be increa sed by repla cing the relev ant compone nts (not inc luded). 4.5.1 Voltage limit ations If a Vm max higher than 40V is required, then some component s must be cha nged on the board .
