2. HARDWARE DESCRIPTION This product provides th ree different run ning speeds – 10Mbp s , 100Mbps and 1000Mbps in the same Managed Media Converter and au tomatically distinguish es the speed of in coming connection . This secti on describes the functionali t ies of GT-90X’s components and guides how to install it on the desktop or shelf.
2.1.1 LED Ind icators LED Color Description PWR Green Lit: When +5VDC po wer detected. Lit: To indicate the link through that fi ber port is successfully establ ished. Fiber LNK/ACT Green Blink: Indicate tha t the Fiber port i s active ly sending or receiving data o ver that port.
2.2 Inst all th e Co nverter This secti on describes how to instal l y our Managed Media Converter and ma ke connections to the Managed Media Converter. Please read the follo wing topi cs and perform the procedures i n the order being presented. The hardware installation o f Managed Media Converter do not need software configura tion.

2.2.2 Chassis Ins tallation and Rack Mounting To install the Managed Media Converte r in a 10-inch or 19-inch with standard rack, follow the instructions described below. Step 1 : Place your Managed Media Con verter on a hard flat surfac e, with the front panel posi tioned towards your fron t side.

3. MEDIA CONVERTER MANAGEMENT This chapter de scribes how to manage the Managed Media Converter. Topi cs include: - Overview - Management methods - Assigning an IP add ress to the Managed Media Con verter - Logging on to the Managed Media Conver ter 3.
3.2.1 Web Ma n agement The PLANET Managed Med ia Converter provides a built-i n browser interface. You can manage the Managed Media Converter remotely by having a remote host w ith Web browser , such as M icrosoft In ternet Explorer, Netscape Navigator or Mozilla Firefox.
3.2.3 PLANET Smart Di sc overy Utility For easily list the Managed Media Converter in your Etherne t environment, the Plane t Smart Discovery Utility fro m user’s manual CD-ROM is an ideal solution. The following in stall instructions guiding you for run the Planet Smart Discovery Utility.

This util ity show all necessary informa tion from the devi ce s, such as MAC Address, Device Name, firmware version , Device IP Subnet address, also can assign ne w password , IP Subnet address and descrip t ion for the devices. 4. 4. WEB MANAGEMENT The GT-90X Managed Media Converter provide Web interf ace for management function c onfiguration and make the Managed Media Con verter operate more effe ctively - They can be configured through the Web Browser. A network administrator can manage and monitor the Managed Media Conver te r from the local LAN.
4.2 System 4.2.1 Sy stem Inform a tion The System Information Web page p rovides information for the current device. Syste m Information Web page helps network administrator to iden tify the firmware ve rsions, IP Subnet Address and etc.
4.2.2 IP Conf iguration The IP Configuration includes the DHCP Client, IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and De scription. The screen in Fig ure 4-3 appears and Table 4-2 describes the IP Con f iguration obje ct of Managed Media Con verter.
4.2.3 Pas s word Setting This function provides administrator to secu re Web login. The screen in Figure 4-4 & 4-5 appears and Table 4-3 describe s the Password Setting object of Managed Media Converter.
The Passwo rd Setting W eb page include s the following configurable data: Login Name Displays the user name (admin). Old Password Ente r the old password is required before entering the new passwo rd. Ne w Pa sswo rd Specifies the new password. The password is not di splayed.

4.2.5 SNM P Ma nagement This function provide s SNMP Management and SNMP Trap Re ceiver Configuration function of the Managed Media Converter and the screen in Figu re 4-12 & 4-13 appears and T able 4 -4 & 4-5 describes the SN MP Management and SNMP Trap Receiver object o f Managed Media Converter.

4.3 Port Manageme nt 4.3.1 Por t Configuration This function allow s displaying TP / Fiber port status. The Link Status in the screen displays the current connection speed and duplex mode; else thi s function will show red “Down” w hen the TP / Fiber port is disconnected.

4.3.2 Por t Status This function allows displaying TP / Fiber port detail status, such a s Link Status, Duplex Mode , Flo w control , Speed and Auto negotia t ion. Press the “Refre sh” button to renew the screen, the screen in Figure 4-23 appears and Table 4-7 describes the Po rt Status objec t of Manag ed Media Converte r.
4.3.3 Por t Statis tics This function allows display ing TP / Fiber port detail Statistics, press the “Clear” button to clear current coun ter information . Press the “Refre sh” button to renew the screen, the screen in Figure 4-24 & 4-25 appears.
4.4 Converter Confi gur ati on This function provides u s eful setting for the Managed Media Converter, such as Maximum Packe t length, Loop detection, storm control and etc. The screen in Figure 4-26 appears and Table 4-8 describes the Converter Configuration object of Managed Media Con verter.

Default VLANs The Managed Media Converter ini t ially configures one VLAN, VID = 1, called "default." The factory default se tting assigns all ports on the Managed Media Converter to the "default" . As new VLAN are configu red in Port-based mode , their respec tive membe r ports are removed from the "default.

4.5.2 VL AN Per Port Setting This function provides IEEE 802.1Q VLAN per port setting for TP and Fiber port of Managed Media Converter. Press the “App ly” button to save the current configuration of Managed Media Converter. The screen in Figure 4-29 appears and Table 4-10 describes the VLAN Per Port Setting objec t of Managed Media Converter.
4.5.3 Q-i n -Q VLAN Setting When enable Q-in-Q fun ction, Managed Media Converter can insert or remove 4-by tes Q-in-Q tag in the re ceived 802.3 frames after SA. User can define Q-in-Q tag value freely. And in default condi tion, Q-in-Q tag forma t is same as VLAN tag.
4.6 Qualit y of Service Quality of Service (QoS) is an advanced tra ffic prioritization fe ature that allow s you to establish control over netw ork traffi c. QoS enables you to assign various g rades of network service to d ifferent type s of traffic, such as multi-media, video, protocol-speci fic, time critical, and file-backup traffic.
The Quality o f Service Web page includes the follow ing configurable da ta: Qos Mode Provide 4 diffe r ent QoS mode for opera tion, the available options are: Disable 802.1p Tag Priority The 802. 1p Tag Pri ority fie ld as sho w in Figure 4-32 . 4.7 OAM Set up 4.7.1 Local TS-1000 OAM Setup This function provide s Local TS-1000 OAM Se tup of Managed Media Converter. Press the “A pp ly” button to save the current configuration of Managed Media Converter. The screen in F igure 4-35 appears and Table 4-13 describes the Local TS-1000 OAM Setup object of Managed Me dia Converter.
4.7.2 Rem o te TS-1000 OAM Setup The Remote TS -1000 OAM Se tup is an advan ced remote device monitor featu re that allows you to Remote monitor and automatic notify status indi cation.

4.7.4 80 2.3ah Setup When enable 802.3ah OAM function, all 802.3ah OAMPDU packets will trap to e mbedded CPU. Software will implemen t auto discovery procedure.

4.8 Security This function provides TCP / UDP Filter setting of Managed Media Converter. Press the “A pply” button to save the current configuration of Managed Me dia Converter. The screen in Figure 4-41 appears and Table 4-17 describes the TCP / UDP Filter setting object of Managed Media Converter.
4.9 Logout This function provides Logout function of Managed Media Converter, w hen the “Are you sure to logout” pop window appears; press the “OK” button to logou t W eb page of Managed Media Converte r. T he screen in Figure 4-42 & 4-43 appears.
