Some are designed to be floor standing, while others should be placed on stands to sound their best. Some should be placed near a wall; others should be placed away from walls.

22 En 03 Front P anel 1 ST ANDBY/ON (Main power) button Pressing this button switches the r eceiver ON from ST ANDBY mode. RECEIVER button on the remote contr ol also toggles between ON and ST ANDBY mode. The receiver uses a small amount of electricity (less than 1W) in ST ANDBY mode.
English 23 En Displays & Controls Rear P anel 1 TV/SA T IN terminals (connect a TV/SA T set top box here, see page 15) Use these terminals to input a TV/SA T signal (or from another kind of source, if you choose). Make sure to connect to the video terminals and both the analog and optical digital terminals for audio.

28 En LS RS LC RS W 05 Fine T uning Y our Surround Sound Room Setup This setup establishes the distances from your speakers to your nor mal listening position. It is important for the receiver to know these distances so it can output pr oper surround sound.
English 29 En Personalizing Y our Surround Sound This receiver will make the necessary speakers settings automatically so you can use it to get enjoyable sur - round sound without doing anything, but making mor e exact settings here will give you finer surr ound sound.
30 En Fine T uning Y our Surround Sound Front speakers setting This settings establishes the size and configuration of the front speakers you have connected more exactly than the automatic setup. Select either Lar ge ( L ) or Small ( S ). This will determine if bass sounds are sent by the r eceiver to the speakers being set.
English 31 En Fine T uning Y our Surround Sound LFE attenuator setting Dolby Digital and DTS audio sources include ultra-low bass tones. Set the LFE attenuator as needed to prevent the ultra-low bass tones fr om distorting the sound from all the active speakers.
32 En Fine T uning Y our Surround Sound Dual mono setting Dual mono has two dif ferent audio channels in it. Y ou can use it to listen to soundtracks that have one language on one channel and a differ ent language on the other .
English 33 En Input attenuator setting Y ou can set the input signal to be lowered if it is distorting. This is only possible for analog signals, digital signals can ’ t be attenuated. Follow steps 1&2 on page 29 (if necessary). Use the +/ – buttons to set th e input attenua- tor ON or OFF .
34 En Setting the Volume Level of Each Channel (adjusting the speaker volume balance) Use to set the relative volume of each channel as you find necessary . 1 Press RECEIVER to turn the power on. 2 Press MASTER V OL UME + or – – – – – to adjust the volume to an appr opriate level.

36 En Playback Modes Selecting a Listening Mode Choose a listening mode that suits the soundtrack you are listening to or achieves the ef fect you want, as explained on the previous page. It will pr obably be necessary for you to experiment with differ ent modes until you find ones which suit your tastes.

If you alr eady know the exact frequency of the station you want to listen to, see “T uning Directly to a Station” on page 39.

In this case, you can simply enter the frequency directly using the number buttons on the remote contr ol. 1 Press the FM/AM button on the remote control to put it in tuner mode.
