Connecting your equipment 2 2 12 - If the surround speakers cannot be set directly t o the side of the listening position with a 7.1-channel system, the surround effect can be enhanced by turning off the Up Mix function (see Setting the Up Mix function on page 35 ).
Connecting your equipment 2 2 13 CAUTION • Make sure that all speakers are securely installed. This not only improves sound quality, but also reduces the risk of damage or injury resulting from speakers being knocked over or falling in the event of external shocks such as earthquakes.
Connecting your equipment 2 2 14 Making cable connections Make sure not to bend the cables over the top of this unit (as shown in the illustration). If th is happens, the magnetic field produced by the transformers in this unit may cause a humming noise from the speakers.

3 Chapter 3 23 Basic Setup Automatically setting up for surround sound (MCACC) The Auto Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration (MCACC) setup measures the acoustic characteristics of your listenin g area, taking into account ambient noise, speaker size and distance, and tests for both channel dela y and channel level.
Basic Setup 3 3 24 7 Wait for th e test tones to finish. A progress report is displayed on-screen wh ile the receiver outputs test tones to determine the speakers present in your setup. Try to be as quiet as possible while it’s doing this. • For correct speaker settings, do not adjust the volume during the test tones.
4 Chapter 4 25 Basic playback Playing a s ource Here are the basic instructions for playing a source (such as a DVD disc) with your home theater system.

7 Chapter 7 46 Home Menu Using the Home Menu The following section show s you how to make detailed settings to specify how you’re using th e receiver, and also explains how to fine-tune individual speaker sy stem setting s to your liking. Important • The OSD will not appear if yo u have connected using the composite output to your TV.
Home Menu 7 7 47 3 Choose the set of speakers that you want to set then select a speaker size. Use / to select the size (and number) of each of the following speakers: • Front – Select LARGE if your front speakers reproduce bass frequencies effectively, or if you didn’t connect a subwoofer.

Different sources can be playing in two zones at the same time or, depending on your needs, t he same source can also be used.

If you think that there is s omething wrong with this component, check the points below. Take a look at the other components and electrical appliances being used, because sometimes the problem may lie there.
