11 1.3 Choosing a plac e for yo ur DiskMaster When selecting a place to set up your Disk Array, be su re to follow these guidelines: Place on a flat and s table surface capa ble of supporting at le ast 5Kg. Place the DiskMas ter close enough to a network jack for the Ether net cable to reach it.

16 1. 9 Building DiskMaster H DD Sys tem If the hard disks are being installed for the first time, yo u need to initializ e the disks before you ca n use them. Follow the s teps described below. To configure your DiskM aster, yo u wil l need to use the web browser, enter the IP a ddress and then use the web configuration for further setup.
17 Insert NAS sy stem CD-Rom in to your c omputer, and run NasLink. Pressing the Re fresh List button. NAS in the same subnet will autom atically show up in the Device list. Make sure NAS syste m has probably c onnect to the network and search ag ain.
18 When you first time log in DiskMaster or System Disk h asn’t been created, y ou will be asking if you wou ld like to do RAID co nfiguration. Click Cancel , se t HDDs as Normal wit h 2 distinctive storages. Click OK , set HDDs to RAI D mode, RAID 0 or RAID 1.
19 There are 2 differe nts RAID mode: RAID 0: RAID 0, known as disk striping, has gener ally the best performance , but doe s not offer any redund ancy. In this level, data i s bro ken into small units called sectors, and sectors are distri buted across all disks in the array.

21 RAID Mode You need to ins tall 2 HDDs to create RAID system on DiskMaster. When you first time login DiskMaster o r System Disk hasn’t been create d, you will be asking if yo u would like to do RAID co nfiguration.

25 2. WEB Configuration Open the web browser, e nter the local port IP address of this device, which de faults at http ://192.168.1.10 , a nd click “ Go ”, a username and pas sword window will appear. The default usern ame & password are admin & admin , in respectively.

29 2. 1 SYSTEM-> Networking Management NetWork Settings These settings help DiskMaster co nnect to the network IP Status: The default value is A utomatically (DHCP). In this way t he DiskMaster is configured as DHCP clien ts . Check the Man ual Config uration to set the IP address m anually.
30 PPPoE Dial-up Setting If you are using an ADSL dial -up netw ork connection with a d ynamic IP, DiskM aster can also su pport ADSL dial- up co nnections.
31 2.2 SYSTEM->Accoun t Manag ement In this section yo u can define groups and users . The menù consists of four sub- test: New Account /Account Listing New Group/Group Li sting Before sta.
32 After entering the p arameters click SA VE to make perm anent the configura tion. When t he web server module is installed, yo u will see an additional option : Disable User’s Homepage . Checking this option will preven t users to access their homepage.
33 New Group In this se ction it is poss ible to cre ate a new group . Type in the field Group the name of the new gro up. After entering the p arameters click SA VE to make perm anent the configura tion. Groups should be created before the cre ation of the users .
34 Account Listing In this section you ca n see and edit all e xisting accounts in DiskMas ter . It’s possible to see, modify or cancel an y account previously cre ated. To reomve and account, simply tick the box on the left of the name (account) and then click on D elete.
35 When the number of users created is ve ry large, yo u c an use the menù Search to restrict the listo f accounts displ ayed..
36 Group Listing In this section you can see and m odify all the groups ex isting in the DiskMaster . To modify an account c lick on the icon Edi t ( ) at the corresponding row. The screen below w ill appear. You can modify all the following fields : Group , Quota, Di sable FTP/File Server, Ho mepage.
37 When the number of gro ups cre ated is very large, you ca n use the menu Search to restrict the list of accounts displ ayed..
38 2.3 SYSTEM->Back up Manage ment Throught this fe ature the DiskM aster can make a backup to a re mote PC , another DiskMaster or any sh ared network fold er. Files are encrypted and compressed in order to make the process safer a nd reduce transmission times.
39 You can make a local backup , the IP address must be 127.0.0.1. You are strongly adv ised to use another de vice to backup data . Backup/Restore When the “Backup Serve r Setting” is co nfigured, you c an perform instant B ackups or Restore from t he backed up file/fold ers.
40 You can selec t w hat you w ant to re store , o r check Backup Items to make a full backup . Select from the co mbo box Ba ckup Date a da te and click Resto re. The restore of the f ield Network M anagement should be done alone to avoid IP configuration pr oblems.
41 Schedule Backup In this section yo u can schedu le backup proce sses. DiskMaster c an also send an e - mail to the administrator whe n the pro cess has correctly finished . You can select what yo u want to backup , o r check the Ba ckup Items to make a full backup .
42 2.4 SYSTEM->Syst em Infor mation In this se ction of D iskMaster are shown mo re inform ation about hardware and information about the d ate of the device. The menu consis t of two sub-men us: Hardware Info System Date Hardware Info The sy stem shows in formation about me mory and typology of configuration applied to discs.
43 System Date In this section you ca n configure the in ternal clock of Dis kMaster. The DiskMaster wi ll update the clock using the follow ing rules: When turned on For each hour of ope ration At each change of the combo box Time Zone In Time Zone select from the combo -box, the time slot be longs .
44 2.5 SYSTEM->Hard Disk Mana gement The File Server supports SM B/CIFS and allowcs to share folders on PC ’s connec ted in LA N. I t’s poss ible to share data files, music or video. The management system also allows you to control the a ccess.
45 Hard Disk Configuratio n In this section you can have access to detailed configuration of the disc/discs. DiskMaster partit ion the disc in four d ifferent areas : /fsys 15 GB Home Director y(/data.
46 Identify the part ition to replace in the Home, click Repl ace. DiskMaster will copy the co ntents of the Ho me Directory i n the new partition. The origi nal hom e directory wi ll be changed into an ord inary partition.
47 RAID Configuratio n Before creating a RAID should ve rify th at all parti tion are deleted. Delete wit h Delet e all e xisting partitio ns ( Hard Disk Management-> Hard Disk Config uration ). The disc structure m ust be like in the pic ture: When all partitions have been remove d, you can c reate a RAID.
48 To rem ove the RAI D click R eset, in Ha rd Disk Management- >Hard Disk Config uration . Although the configuratio n is RA ID , sho ws a single disc (to the left of the word is hig hlighted RAID Disk ).
49 RAID Alarm Settings Check the field Se nd Out Notices to allow the send ing o fan e-mai l in case of errors in RAID. After entering the p arameters click Sav e to make perm anent configuration . The mail ad dress must be set GUI Management ->System Info.
50 2.6 SYSTEM->Po wer Manage ment System Reboot Click Save to reboot the system . All the services will be stopped and the s ystem rebooted. Click Save, and then click OK to confi rm to the re quests in the following wi ndow, to start the reboot ing process of DiskM aster.
51 2.7 SYSTEM->Fir mware Upgra de Module Upgrad e In this sectio n it is possible to install adition al modules in DiskM aster or up grade your Kernel. You can install add itional packages on t he device to expand its functionality . Native modules alrea dy installed on DiskMaster are: SYS: Is the Kernel o f the system.
52 It should be ensured during the entire phase of upgrades, the alimentation to the device. If this fail, t he device may not be recoverable. Make the upgrade using a wired connec tion and not a wireless one. This could d amage the device and vo id the warranty.
53 2.8 SERVER->Fil e Server The File Server supports SMB/CIFS and allows s haring of folders on PC’s con nected in LAN. It’ s possible to share d ata files, music or video .
54 Settings You can set the name for the Service of File Server ( Host Name ), W orkGroup and the Descri ption field . After entering the p arameters click Sav e to make perm anent the configura tion.
55 Share Folders In this section you can cre ate new folders, and enable them to decide acce ss . DiskMaster crea tes the defautl publi c fold er , entitled to all account to read/write . DiskMaster use the following structure fo r the creation/location of folde rs.

59 To co nfigu re access to a fol der, once activated, click on the button (Far right) of the folder itself. You will see the image below. Folder Name: You can change the folde r name here. Description: yo u can change the nam e. Permission Control: You can selec t the type of access allowed to users.

62 2.9 SERVER->FTP S erver The FTP service (File Transfer Protocol) allows transfer o f files over the Internet or local LAN. The menu consis ts of four sub-test: Status: allows you to activate or deactivate the status of the FTP server. This service is not ac tivated by default .
63 Status The FTP Service is dis abled by default. To enable service c heck FTP Server S tart .When the service is active, you wil l see the screen below.
64 Settings Host Name: Enter the name of the FT P server. Listen Port: G enerally, the listening port of the FTP se rver has the n umber 21 . You can change that number but must be notified to the FTP client (and appropriately change d the Virtual Server se ction of the ADSL Router).
65 Test1 is limited to uploads and downloads to 100 KBs 400KBs. Upload Test2 is limited to 100KBs do wnloads bu t has no limits. Test 3 and Test4 have limits but not a dow nload 4 00Kbs upload.
66 Anonymous S ettings Anonymous logi n Allowed: Check to allow anonymous login. Maximum number of Logins: Enter the maximum number of simultaneously ac tive sessions. Each connect ion occupies 2 sessions (data and control ). Maximum Upload /Download Rate : It 's possible to limit the introduction of a value.
67 Logs The FTP server sto res all activities that interest him. There a re 2 types of log fi les. . Secure: stores in formation such as Date, Time, IP Address, User N ame. Xferlog: stores all the activities made by a user as upload, download, delete, change etc .
68 2.10 GUI->GUI Management In this section you ca n configure the GUI administratio n DiskMaster . The menu in question has 5 submenus : Password Settings: è You can change the user / password. Access Management: you can co ntrol access to the detailed co nfiguration DiskMaster.
69 Password Settings Username: type yo ur new username . default username is sysadmin. New Password: type your new passw ord. The default password is atlantis . Confirm New Password : retype yo ur new password. After entering the p arameters click Sav e to make pe rmanent configur ation.
70 Access managem ent Device Name: Type the name o f the device. The default name is DiskMasterG502D. Enable SSL Co nnection: Check to enable encryption. To access the DiskMaster type h ttps instead of http. Authorize Mo de: If this option is not checked, t he authen tication is controlled dao computer's browser.
71 System Info.Setup Company(Org.)nam e: type ident ifier. Administrator na me: type identifier . Administrator E -Mail: type t he email address where the device se nds alerts / messages. After entering the p arameters click Sav e to make permanent con figuration.
72 Notices to Host In this section you ca n configure the de tails to enable DiskMaste r sending mail. Host: IPO type the address of the SMTP se rver and port used (usually 25). Need Authorization: check if the SM TP server re quires authentication.
73 Logs DiskMaster stores all activities that affe ct the GUI. There are tw o types of log fi les: . Miniserv.log: stores information such as date, time, IP address, Username and transactions. Miniserv.error: s tores all abnormal ac tivity, including attacks.
