1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The KL1100 is a series of KVM Console m odules featuring an int egrated 17" or 19" LCD panel, a full keyboard, and a touch pad in a 1U rack-m ount able sliding housing with AC or DC based input power sources.

Chapter 1. Introduction 3 Requirement s LCD Console The LCD console supports most KVM switches that have PS/2 console port connectors. If you are unsure whet her your switch is support ed or not, check with your dealer . The integrated LCD m onitor's maximum resolu tion is 1280 x 1024 @75Hz.

11 Chapter 2 Hardware Setup Before you Begin 1. Important safety in formation rega rding the placement of this device is provided on page 33. Please review it before proceeding. 2. Make sure that power to all the devices you will be connecting up has been turned off.
KL1100 User Manual 12 St andard Rack Mounting A standard rack mo unting kit can be pu rch ased separately for your KL1100. The kit enables the KL1100 to be mounted in rack with a depth of 42 –77 cm . Note: 1. It takes two people to mount the sw itch: one to hold it in place, the other to screw it in.
Chapter 2. Hardware Setup 13 To rack mount th e KL1100, do the following: 1. While one person positions the KL1100 in the rack and holds it in place, the second person loosely screws the fron t brackets to the rack.
KL1100 User Manual 14 Connecting Up Refer to the example instal latio n diagram as you perform the following steps: 1. Plug the SPHD connector end of a KVM cable (either supp lied with the unit, or purchased separately , see External Console , page 3) into the LCD Console's KVM port.
15 Chapter 3 Operation Opening the Console The KL1100's console consists of two modules: an LCD display module located under the t op cover; and a keyboard / tou ch pad module bel ow the LCD module. The modules can either slide together, or indepen dently.

Pull the release catch and pull the top and bottom pan els out until the keyboard module clicks into pl ace.
KL1100 User Manual 18 Operating Precautions RIGHT Rest your hands and arms lightly on the keyboard module as you work. WRONG! DO NOT lean your body weight on the keyboard module. DO NOT place heavy objects on the keyboard module. The maximum load bearing capacity of the keyboard module is 30kg.
Chapter 3. Operation 19 Closing the Console 1. Pull the release catches located on either side of the keyboard toward you to release the keyboard module, then sl ide the module sli ghtly in. 2. Let go of the catches. Using the front handle, push the keyboard module all the way in.

Chapter 3. Operation 21 Hot Plugging The KL1100 sup ports hot plugging – com pon ents can be removed and added to the console by unpluggin g their cables from th e po rts without the need to shut down the KL1100.

25 Chapter 4 Firmware Upgrade The Firmware Upgrade Utility As new firmware revisions become available for the KL110 0, firmware upgrade packages are posted on th e ATEN web site. Th e Windows-based Firmware Upgrade Utility (FWUpgrade.exe) provide s a smooth, automated process for upgrading the KL11 00’s firmware.
KL1100 User Manual 26 Firmware Upgrade Mode The KL1100’s firmware u pgrade mode can be accesse d one of two ways: by entering a hotkey sequence (see Console Selection , page 24), or by placing the KL1100 in firmware upg rade reco very mode (see Firmware Upgrade Recovery , page 31).

W ith the KL1100 in Firmware Upgrade Mode, run the dow nloaded Firmware Upgrade Package file from y our computer - either by double clicking the file ico n, or by openi ng a command line and keying in the full path and filename.

Appendix 35 DC Power The system relies on the protective de vices in the buil ding installatio n for protection against short-circui t, over current, and earth (gro unding) fault. Ensure that the protective devices in the building installation are properly rated to protect the system, and that they comply with national and local codes.
