21 Chapter 4 Configuration Introduction The administration utiliti es, represented by the links and icons located at the left panel of the CN8600 web page, are used to configure the CN8600 ’s operating environment. This chapter discusses each of them in turn.
CN8600 User Manual 22 Basic Setting The following section s describe the screens under Basic Setting , which enable users to view or edit user information and device setti ngs, inclu din g sessions, firmware version, configuration backup /resto re and EDID.

CN8600 User Manual 24 Sessions The Sessions screen lets the administrator see at a glance all the users currently logged into the CN8600, and provides informat ion about each of th eir sessions. The meanings of the headings at the top of the page are fairly straightforward.
Chapter 4. Configuration 25 Maintenance The Maintenance screen allow s the Administrator to upgrade the CN860 0’s firmware, view the m onitor’s ED ID, backup/restore the CN8600’s configuration settings and ping an IP address.

CN8600 User Manual 32 IP Installer The IP Installer is an external Windows-b ased utility for assign ing IP addresses to the CN8600. C lick one of the radio button s to select Enabled, View Only, or Disabled for the IP Installer utili ty. See p. 12 9 for IP Installer details.
Chapter 4. Configuration 33 Redundant NI C A Redundant NIC ensures that the CN8600 is always online by swit ching to another network ad apter in case the primary connection fails. Check Redundant NIC if you are using the secondary LAN port for a second IP address.
CN8600 User Manual 34 IPv6 Settings The CN8600 can either have its IPv6 address assigned dynami cally at boot up (DHCP), or it can be given a fixed IPv6 address. For dynamic IP address assignment, select the Obtain an IPv6 address automatically , radio button.
Chapter 4. Configuration 35 ANMS The Advanced Network Management Settings screen allows you to set up login authentication and authorization ma nagement from external sources. It is divided into several sections, each of wh ich is described in the sections that follow.
CN8600 User Manual 36 SMTP Settings To have the CN860 0 email reports from the SMTP server to yo u, do the following: 1. Check Enable report fr om the following SMTP server , and key in the IP address and service port of your SMTP server . 2. If you’re connecting to a secure server , check My server requires secur e connection (SSL) .
Chapter 4. Configuration 37 Log Server Important transactions that occur on the CN860 0, such as logi ns and internal status messages, are kept in an automatically generated log file Specify the MAC address of the computer that the Log Server runs on in the MAC address field.
CN8600 User Manual 38 Authentication The CN8600 allows log in auth enticat ion and authorization through external programs. This screen lets you configure the RADIUS, LDAP, and CC Management settings. If you want to use a RADIUS, LDAP , CC Authentication instead of the CN8600 device authen tication, check Disable Device Authentication .
Chapter 4. Configuration 39 LDAP Settings To allow authentication a nd authorization via LDAP or LDAPS, the Active Directory’s LDAP Schema must be extended so that an extended attri but e name for the CN8600 – CN8600 -userProfile – is added as an optional attribute to the person class .
CN8600 User Manual 40 The Permission Attribute V alue (for RADIUS and LDAP) The attribute value for per mission is made up of two parts: 1) the IP address of the CN8600 a user will access; and 2) a string that indicates the access rights the user has on the CN8600 at that IP address.
Chapter 4. Configuration 41 CC Management Settings To allow authorization for the CN8600 th rough a CC (Control Center) server, check Enable and fi ll in the CC Server’s IP addr ess and the port that it listens on in the appropriate fields.
CN8600 User Manual 42 Timeout - Sets the amount of time (in minutes) that a remote com put er must wait before attempting to l ogin again after it has exceeded the number of allowed fail ures. The default is 3 minutes. Note: If you don’t enable Login Failures , users can attempt to log in an unlimited number of times with no restrictions.
Chapter 4. Configuration 43 Adding Filters To add an IP filter , do the follow ing : 1. Click Add . Key in the IP address range you want to filter , and click OK : 2. Repeat these steps for any additiona l IP addresses you want to filter . To add a MAC filter , do the following : 1.
CN8600 User Manual 44 Deleting Filters To delete a filter, select it in the IP Filter or MAC Filter list box and click Delete . The Filter section also lets administrators specify a Login String that users must include (in addition to the IP address) when they access the CN8600 with a browser.
Chapter 4. Configuration 45 Account Policy Set the parameters for the username and passwo rd. Minimum Username Length: Enter the minimum numb er (0 - 16) of characters required for a us ername (default is 6). Minimum Password Length: Enter the minim um num ber (0 - 16) of characters required for a password (default i s 6).
CN8600 User Manual 46 Mode Use this section to set the working m ode parameters. Enable ICMP so that the CN8600 can be ping ed. If it is not enabled, the device cannot be pinged. The default is Enabled . Enable Multiuser Operation to permit m ore th an one user to log into the CN8600 at the same time.
Chapter 4. Configuration 47 Private Certificate When logging in over a secure (SSL) connection, a signed certificate is used to verify that the user is logging in to th e intended site.

Cl ick Br owse to the right of Private Key ; browse to where your private encryption key file is located; and select it. 2. Cl ick Br owse to the right of Certificate ; browse to where your certificate file is located; and select it.

CN8600 User Manual 50 Console Management This section discusses metho ds of opening the CN8600 console via OOBC or serial connection. OOBC In case the CN8600 cannot be accessed wi th the usual LAN-ba sed methods, it can be accessed via the switch’s mode m port.
Chapter 4. Configuration 51 Dial Out For the dial out function, you must establish an account with an Internet Service Provider, and use a modem to dial up to your ISP account.

Chapter 4. Configuration 53 Serial Console To configure the CN8600 to interact with the connected seri al device, you need to set its parameters to match the param eters of the device in the Port Property Settings . Select the value s that match the ones us ed by the connected serial console device.
CN8600 User Manual 54 Note: None is only supported for baud rates of 9600 and lower . For baud rates greater than 9600, you must choose Hardware or XON/XOFF . Port Alert Properties : Y ou can specify up to 10 types of events (e.g., Power On). Enter them in the provided Alert String (1 - 10) fields.
Chapter 4. Configuration 55 Date / Time Select the month from the dropdown listbox . Click < or > to move backwar d or forw ard by one year increments. In the calendar , click on the day . T o set the time, key in the numbers using the 24 hour HH:MM:SS format.

Chapter 4. Configuration 57 Multiuser Mode: Defines how a port is to be accessed when multiple users have logged on, as follows: Exclusive : The first user to switch to th e port has exclusive control over the port. No other us ers can view the port.

63 Chapter 5 The Client V iewer S t arting Up The Client Viewer is available when you log into the CN8600 web GUI using a browser. After you log in (see Logging In , page 17), click th e Viewer icon in the left panel menu.
CN8600 User Manual 64 Navigation You can work o n the remote system via the screen display on y our monitor just as if it were your local system. Y ou can maxi mize the window , drag th e borders to resize the window; or use the scrollbars to m ove around the screen.
Chapter 5. The Client Viewer 65 By default, the left of th e top text row show s the video resolution of the remote display. As the mouse pointer moves over the icons in the icon bar, however , the information in the top text row changes to describe the icon's function.
CN8600 User Manual 66 Control Panel Functions The Control Panel functio ns are described in the table below. Note: Clicking the T button at the top right of the dialog boxes that ap pear for the control panel functions brings up a slider to adjust the transparency of the dialog box.
Chapter 5. The Client Viewer 67 Click to toggle the remote display between color and grayscale. Click to bring up the Virtual Media dialog box. The icon changes when a virtual media device is started on the port. See Virtual Media , page 82, for specific details.
CN8600 User Manual 68 Macros The Macros icon pro vides access to three funct ions found in the Macros dial og box: Hotkeys, User Macros, and System Macros.
Chapter 5. The Client Viewer 69 If you find the default Hotkey combinatio ns inconvenient, you can reconfigure them as follows: 1. Highlight an Action , then click Set H otkey . 2. Press your selected Function keys (one at a time). The key names appear in the Hotkeys field as you press them.
CN8600 User Manual 70 User Macros User Macros are used to perform speci fic actions on the remote server. To create the macro, do the following: 1. Se lec t the User Macros radio button, then click Add .
Chapter 5. The Client Viewer 71 2. In the dialog box that comes up, replace the “New Macro” text with a name of your choice for the macro: 3. Click Record . The dialog box disappears, and a small panel appears at the top left of the screen: 4. Press the keys for the macro.
CN8600 User Manual 72 Clicking Cancel cancels all keystrokes. When you have finished, click St o p . This is the equivalent of clicking Done in Step 5. Note: 1. Case is not considered – typing A or a has the same effect. 2. When recording the macro the focus must be on the remote screen.
Chapter 5. The Client Viewer 73 If you run the macro from this dialog box, you have the option of specifying how the macro runs. If you choose Pla y Without Wait , the macro runs the keypresses one after another with no time delay between them.

CN8600 User Manual 78 Gamma Adjustment If it is necessary to correct the gamma level for the remote video display, use the Gamma function of th e Video Ad justment dialog box. Under Basic configuration, there are ten preset and four user-defined levels to choose from.

If Full Screen Mode is not enabled, the remote display appears as a window on the client desktop. If the remote screen is large r than what is able to fit in the window, scrollbars will appear .
