6 Getting started Bat t ery install ation and char ging Install the batt ery as shown below. Step 3 Charge the handset by placing it face up in the char ger. The CHARGE light is on when charging. Step 1 Plug the battery connector secur ely into the sock et inside the handset battery compartment, matching the color-coded label.

8 Getting started Bat t ery char ging Once you have inst alled the battery , the screen indicates the battery st atus (see table below). If necessary , place the handset in the charger t o charge the batt ery . For best performanc e, keep the handset in the charger when not in use.

10 Adding and r egist ering handsets Befor e using a new TL86009 handset, you must register it with the AT&T TL86109 telephone system (purchased separatel y). The AT&T TL86109 telephone system can accommodate up to 12 handsets. The handset provided with the TL86109 comes registered as HANDSET .
11 Adding handset to your telephone base Expand your t elephone syst em Add and r egister a handset When first purchased, each e xpansion handset shows Pr ess [ HOLD] on base for 4 sec, then pr ess [#] on handset after a bat tery is installed.
12 Adding handset to your telephone base R eplace a handset If you want to r eplace a handset or reassign the designat ed handset number of a regist ered handset, you must der egister all the handsets and then individually r egister each handset. T o make deregistration easier , read all of the instructions on this page befor e you begin.

14 Appendix T r oubleshooting I cannot get a dial tone. First try all the suggestions above. Move the cor dless handset closer to the telephone base. Y ou might have moved out of range. If the previous suggestions do not work, disconnect the telephone base fr om the telephone jack and connect t o a different phone.
15 Appendix T r oubleshooting My cor dless handset isn’t performing normall y . Make sur e the power cord is secur ely plugged into the telephone base. Plug the power adapter int o a different working electrical outlet not contr olled by a wall switch.
16 Appendix T r oubleshooting Out of range OR no power a t base appears on my cor dless handset. Ensure that the tel ephone base is powered up. Move the cor dless handset closer to the telephone base. Y ou might have moved out of r ange. Reset the tel ephone base.
17 Appendix T r oubleshooting I get noise, sta tic, or a weak signal even when I’m near the tel ephone base. If you subscribe to high-speed Internet servic e (DSL - digital subscriber line) through your t elephone lines, you must install a DSL filter between each t elephone line cord and telephone wall jack.
18 Appendix T r oubleshooting I experienc e poor sound quality when using the speak erphone. For incr eased sound quality while using the speakerphone, place the handset on a flat surface with the dial pad facing up. When using a speakerphone, contr olling background noise in your environment is essential.
19 Appendix T r oubleshooting My cor dless handset does not ring when I r eceive a call. Make sur e that the ringer is not turned off. R efer to Ringer volume on your user’s manual. Make sur e the telephone line cor d is plugged securely into the telephone base and the tel ephone jack.
20 Appendix T r oubleshooting My calls cut in and out while I’m using my c ordless handset. Other electronic pr oducts such as HAM radios and other DECT phones can cause interfer ence with your cordless phone. T ry installing your phone as far aw ay as possible from these types of electronic devic es.
21 Appendix T r oubleshooting The char ge light is off . Make sur e the power and line cords ar e plugged in correctly and securely . Unplug the electrical power . Wait for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute f or the cordless handset and telephone base to r eset.
