Plug one end of the coiled handset cord into the jack on the left side of the phone.

T urn line usage on or off f or each line If you ar e not using all four phone lines at this extension, you need to turn off line usage f or the unused lines. If you expand to a second, third or fourth line, turn line usage back on. Line 1 must be turned on for the inter com to work.
7 Pr ogram home and local ar ea codes Y ou can program this phone to r ecognize one home and up to five local ar ea codes. See Home area code and Local area code on page 6 of y our User’ s Manual, Par t 2 for definitions. 1. Press E to begin feature setup .
8 T elephone operation NO TE: This phone comes progr ammed to use line 1 (default prime line) for calls if you do not press a LINE button. (T o change the pr ime line , see Assign the prime line on page 34 of your User’ s Manual, Par t 2.) When you answ er a call, the phone automatically selects the ringing line .
9 One touch operation This telephone has 32 one touch locations where y ou can store phone numbers you wish to dial using f ewer k eys than usual. Y ou can store up to 24 digits in each location. The steps used to dial numbers stor ed in one touch locations var y according to ho w you pr ogrammed the one touch prefer ence .
10 Stor e a number in a one touch location For information about using the scr een menus, see Menu operation beginning on page 22 of your User’ s Manual, Part 2. 1. Press E to enter the feature men u. The screen displa ys ONE h TOUCH . 2. Press E . The screen displa y includes PREFERENCE and the curr ent setting.

Inter com operation This 984 telephone is fully compatible with an y A T&T Four -Line Small Business Speak erphone 945 or 974 units you ma y ha ve installed. Y ou can use a total of 16 945/974/984 units together as extensions in your phone system.

Answ er an inter com call NO TE: An intercom call can be answered at any extension in the phone system by pressing I . When you r eceive an inter com call, you will hear a r epeating double-ring pattern and your scr een displa ys INTERCOM FROM with the extension number of the caller .
