2 Over vie w This docum ent contains instructions n ecessar y for the ins tallation and operatio n of the Per le Protocol T ransparent Media Con verter modules. T hese Media C onverter m odules allo w connection and cross- connection of fiber n etwork s of different t ypes to each o ther.
3 Inst allation The default s witch sett ings (all switches in the U P position) will work for most installations . See the O peration s ection of this guide for m ore details. The m odule comes equi pped with a bank of DIP switches and a set of jum pers for setting configuratio n.

6 Fiber Fault Alert (Switch 2) Switch Posit ion Mod e Up (defau lt) Enabled Down Disabled Enabled: If the m edia converter m odule detects a loss of fiber signal on its f iber recei ver, it will dis able its fiber tr ansm itter on the same SFP.
7 Installing Protocol Transparent Media Converter Modules Caution: O bserve electros tatic disc harge precaut ions when installing the Protocol Tra nsparent Media Conv erter m odule(s) into the chassis. Fa ilure to obse rve this caut ion cou ld result in dam age to the modu le(s) and/or c hassis .
8 Removing Media Co nvert Modules 1. Loosen the c aptive reta iner screw on th e front of the Protoc ol Trans parent Media Co nverter Modul e and gent ly pull the module out. 2. If not insert ing a replacem ent Protocol Trans parent Media Converter M odule then c over the opening sl ot with a fac e plate and sec ure the scr ew.
