Getting S tarted 77 Setting Up the Ne twork Setting Up the Network The most important part of setting up the net work is assigning an IP address to the IOLAN, whether this is a static IP address or enabling a DHCP/BOOTP-assi gn ed IP address. Y ou shou ld also assign a name to the IOLAN, to make it easier to recognize.
Getting S tarted 78 Setting Up the Ne twork Using WebManager T o use the W ebManager as your co nfigurator , you must first assign an IP address to the IOLAN . Y ou can use the Easy Config W izard to assign an IP a ddress to the IOLAN or any of the other methods described in this section.
Getting S tarted 79 Setting Up the Ne twork Using a Direct Serial Conne ction to Enable BOOTP/DHCP If you are using BOOTP , you need to add an entry in the BOOTP server for the IOLAN that associates the MAC address (found on the back of the IOL AN) and the IP address that you want to assign to the IOLAN.
Getting S tarted 80 Setting Up the Ne twork Using ARP-Ping You can use the ARP-Ping (Address Resolu tion Protoc ol) me thod to temporarily assi gn an IP address and connect to your IOLAN to assign a permanent IP address. T o use ARP-Ping to temporarily assign an IP address: 1.
Getting S tarted 81 Setting Up the Serial Port(s) Setting Up the Serial Port(s) The DeviceManager and W ebManager ha ve the following serial port profiles that will simplify serial port setup: z Console Management —The Console Management profile c onfigures a serial port to provide network access to a console or administrative port.
Getting S tarted 82 Setting Up the Serial Port(s) z V irtual Modem —T he V irtual Modem (Vmodem) profile conf igures a serial port to simulate a modem.
Getting S tarted 83 Setting Up Users Setting Up Users When you have a user who is accessing a device connect ed to a serial port from the network or who is accessing the network from a device connected to a serial port through th e IOLAN, you can create a user account and configure the user ’ s access privile ges.
IOLAN SDS/SCS/STS/MDC User’s Guide, V ersion 4.5 84 Using DeviceManager and W ebManager Chapter 5 5 Introduction The DeviceManager and W ebManager IOLAN managers have been designed to be very similar to use. DeviceManager is a Wi ndows ® -based application and W ebM anager is a browser-based application.
