Thank you for p urchasing th e PENT AX Auto-flash AF360FGZ. In addition t o easy dayligh t sync photogra phy with TTL au to, the AF360FGZ al so allows wir eless TTL auto (P-TTL auto) phot ography and h igh-speed sy nc. It is a clip-on ty pe flash wh ich enables a ccurate foc us adjustmen ts even in dark locatio ns with built- in AF-assist spotbeam.

2 W ARNING The flash contains el ectronic c ircuits that operate at high vol tages . Do not at tempt to disassem ble the fl ash unit yo urself, as there is danger of an el ectric shoc k. If internal p arts of the fla sh unit becomes exposed due t o impact, etc.
3 Precautions for Y our Flash Unit ● Never use orga nic solvents such as paint thinner, alcohol or benzene to cl ean the flash unit. ● Avoid leaving the flash unit for extended period in places wher e the humidit y and temperatu re are very high such as in a car.

9 When in poorly l it locations and the LCD panel canno t be seen, pres sing the LCD p anel illumination button (LIGHT) will illuminate the p anel for about 10 se conds.
10 Inserting the Batteries Slide the batte ry chamber co ver as shown in the figure to open. Insert four AA batteri es, making sur e the plus/ minus markings ( + , - ) match the diag ram inside the ba ttery chamber cover .
11 T ypes of Batt eries This flash un it uses four AA batt eries of the same type, as shown below . - Alkaline batt ery (LR6) - Lithium battery (FR6) - Nickel- Metal Hydride batte ry (Ni-MH) (Nickel mangane se (Ni-Mn) and nick el cadmium (Ni- Cd) batteri es cannot be us ed.
12 Mounting to Camera Remove the hot shoe cover from the camer a. Attach the flash unit to th e camera. Turn the locking leve r of the flas h unit in th e directio n opposite to that indica ted by (FIX ➝ ) (clockwise fr om the direc tion of the LCD panel).
13 T urning the Power On Sliding the power switch to the (ON) p osition will tu rn on the power . The rea dy lamp will light up when the flash is cha rged. Slidi ng it to th e (OFF) posi tion will turn off the power . If charging time takes more than 20 se conds, the batteries a re exhausted and s hould be repl aced with new batte ries.
14 ■ Auto Power Off Function When the flash unit is left unused for about 3 minute s with the power sw itch set to the (ON) position, i t automatically turns of f to save the power . ● In the auto fla sh mode (A), the power will turn off after about 6 minutes.
15 Select Button (S)/Adju stment Dial Functions 4 types of sett ings are avai lable as show n on the follo wing pages for th e select butt on (S) and the a djustment di al. Procedure Press t he select b utton (S) s o that the number to adjust blinks .
16 After ad justment, pr ess the select bu tton (S) and stop the blin king. Adjus t the other it ems below using the same pr ocedure. ● When using multiple flash units set to P-TTL or TTL Auto and adju sting the amount of light at the same time, use the camera’s exposure compensation.
17 Camera Form at and Flash Coverage Angle The AF360F GZ’ s flash cov erage angle can be adju sted to match the ang le of view of the lens being used, which enables effective distr ibution of th e flash light .

19 Zoom Positions by Camera format * With the wi de-angle panel ● When the wide-angle panel is used, the zoom button (ZOOM) will not work. (The wide-angle panel is i n a slit on the top of the flash head. Pull it out so that i t covers the front of the fl ash head.

22 Using the Flash Modes The AF360F GZ has th e followi ng flash mod es. Select the mode best suit ed for the subject . Before pho tographing , confirm t he follo wing. 1. Whet her your camera supp orts the desired flash mode. ➝ Cameras that Support Eac h Flash Mode (page 57) 2.
23 ■ P-TTL Auto Flash Refer to page 22 for the fe atures and conditions of use of this flas h mode. Procedure Turn on the flash unit. Press the f lash mode button (MOD E) until (P-TTL) is di splayed on the LCD p anel.

31 ■ High-S peed Sync Mode Refer to page 29 for the fe atures and conditions of use of this sync mod e. ● As can be seen in th e table on p age 81, the guide number beco mes smaller as th e shutter speed becomes faster in high-s peed sync mode. Accordin gly , it should be not ed that the distance for taking pictures would become shorter.
32 Check the fl ash range by looking a t the bar gr aph on the LC D pane l. Confirm that th e subject is wit hin the effective flash rang e and the re ady lamp is l it. Then take a picture. ● Please read the camera operating manual for camera operation.
33 ■ Contrast Co ntrol Sync Flash Refer to page 29 for the fe atures and conditions of use of this sync mod e. ● Refer to “Connecting the AF3 60FGZ with the Extension Cord” on page 56 on using the AF360FGZ detached fro m the camera. Procedure Turn on the power switch.

35 Advanced Functions ■ Wireless Mode With the AF360F GZ, you can take phot ographs with the flash unit sep arated from the camer a wireles sly in P-TTL mode. Combine the fl ash unit with the built-i n flash unit of the camera or another AF 360FGZ att ached to the camera.
36 ● Control Flash and Main Flash The purpose of the control f lash of the wireless mode is to send informatio n to the other flash unit before taking a picture. The main flash discharg es at the actual time a picture is t aken in the same manner as t raditionally done.
37 ● The AF360FGZ can be used in combin ation with a built-in flash unit only when used with the following cameras. *ist D, *ist, MZ-S, MZ-L/ZX- L/MZ-6, K10D (NOTE), K20D, K200D, K- x, K-7, K-m/K2000 (NOTE) However , this requires th e firmware to b e updated to V e rsion 1.
38 Firstly , se t the wireles s mode and channe l of the AF360FGZ, and re gister the c hannel on the camera. Turn the camera off and then attach th e AF360FGZ to the hot shoe of the camera. Set the po wer switch of the flash unit t o (WIRELESS).
39 (Prepar ation of Flash Unit Att ached to Camera) Firstly , se t the wireles s mode and channe l of the AF360FGZ attached to t he camera, and regi ster the channel on the camera. Attach the AF360FGZ to th e hot shoe of the camera af ter turning the camera off.
40 When you turn t he camera on and pr ess the shutter re lease button ha lfway down, t he channel o f the flash uni t is registe red on the camera. (Prep aration of Sep arated Flash Unit) Next, set th e channel of the se parated (wireless ) flash unit t o the same channe l as the flash unit attached to the ca mera.
41 (Prep aration of Flash Unit Att ached to Camera) Firstly , set the wireles s mode and channel of the AF360FGZ at tached to the camer a, and register the channel on the camera. Attach the AF36 0FGZ to the ho t shoe of the camera after tur ning the camer a off.
42 Slide the s etting switc h back up to the (white dot). When you turn t he camera on and pr ess the shutter re lease button ha lfway down, t he channel o f the flash uni t is registe red on the camera.
43 (Using the AF360FGZ in Combination with a Built-in Flash Unit) Firstly , set the wireles s mode and channel of the AF360FGZ, and register th e channel on th e camera. Turn the camera off and then attach the AF360FGZ to the hot shoe of the camera.
44 When you tu rn the camer a on and pr ess the shutter re lease button ha lfway down, t he channel is regi stered on the came ra. Next, remove the flash uni t from the camera and place it in the d esired posit ion. ● Press the flash mode but ton (MODE) to display (P-TTL) if the flash mode was set to th e modes other than P-TTL.
45 (Using the AF360FGZ in Combi nation with another AF360FGZ) First, set t he wireless mod e and channel of th e AF360FGZ at tached to the camer a, and register the channel on the camera. Turn the camera off and then attach the AF360FGZ to the hot shoe of the camera.
46 When you tu rn the camer a on and pr ess the shutter re lease button ha lfway down, t he channel is regi stered on the came ra. Next, set the chan nel of the s epar ated (wire less) flash unit to the sa me channel as the flash unit attached to the ca mera.
47 ■ Slave With the AF360F GZ, you can take phot ographs with the flash unit sep arated from the camer a wireles sly in auto or ma nual mode. Combine the fl ash unit with the built-i n flash unit of the camera or another flas h unit at tached to the ca mera.
48 Set the zo om position to suit th e subject a nd place the fl ash unit at the de sired locat ion. ● When sett ing up a f lash uni t sep arately from the camera, use the off-camera shoe a dapter F when using a trip od, or the off- camera sho e clip CL-10 when setting up i n another locatio n such as ta bletop, chair , etc.
49 ■ Slave Mode Setting T o properly c ontrol th e slave flash , it is n ecessary to set the slave mode s ettings. Procedure Slide the s etting swit ch up. Press the LCD pa nel illuminat ion butto n (LIGHT) for 2 second s or more. SLA VE1 will be displ ayed.
50 ■ Slow-Spee d Sync Photography When using a normal fla sh to phot ograph a su bject in a night or even ing setting, the backgroun d will appear very dark beca use a normal flash light can not suffic iently light it.
51 ■ Bounc e Flash With the AF3 60FGZ, you can t ilt the flash h ead to aim at the ceili ng or wall to bo unce the flash be fore it reaches th e subject. Doin g so creates softer light and shadows to make t he picture look more natural. Bouncing the flash will decr ease the flash i ntensity by the time it re aches the subj ect.
52 ● A click stop is provided for each bounce angle. ● T o change the ang le, move the fl ash head of the flash unit while pr essing the bounce lock release button. ● When using bounce flash, ( ) will be displayed on the LCD panel. ● The effecti ve flash range will blink only when the bounce angl e is set at -10 ° .
53 ■ AF Spotbea m The AF360FGZ feat ures a built- in red spotbea m projector to assist t he autofocus system in di m light and low-contra st conditio ns. When using t he flash with autofocus c amera in dar k conditions, the spotb eam will be projected automatic ally depend ing on the ambie nt lighting c onditions .
54 ■ Wide-Angle Panel and Catchlight Panel The AF360F GZ has a built-in wi de-angle pane l and catchligh t panel at the top of t he flash head. Execute the f ollowing if ne cessary . Pull out both th e wide-angle pane l and catchlig ht pan el . S t ore the panel you are no t using.
55 ■ Modeling Flash/T est Flash Before taking th e picture, fir ing a modeling fl ash helps you to see how shadows are cast on the subject . Modeling Flash Slide the se tting switch down (yellow dot ). Check that the ready lamp is lit, then press the modeling bu tton (MODELING) .
56 ■ Connecting the AF360 FGZ with the Extension Cord When using the AF360FGZ separate ly from the camera connec ted by an extens ion cord, use the optional ext ension cord F5P /F5P L.
