These instructions wer e developed and tested for use with typical wood frame wall construction in a wall system designed to manage water .
YOU WILL NEED T O SUPPL Y : Ř Cedar or Impervious shims/spacers (12 to 20) Ř 2" galvanized roofing nails (1/4 lb.) Ř Closed cell foam backer r od/sealant backer (24 to 32 ft.
Exterior 1D ' & ( ) D. Fold the wa ter resistive barrier . Fold side flaps into the opening and staple to the inside wall. F old the top flap up and temporarily fasten with flashing tape.
A. Place three 3/8" beads of sealant. The first bead should be approxima tely 3/4" from the exterior of the rough opening, the second 2-1/2" in fr om the first bead of sealant. OX/X O doors only: Place a third bead of sealant in the groove of the sill support or 1/4" from the exterior edge of the wood blocking.
A. Apply side flashing tape. Cut two pieces of flashing tape 4" longer than the frame height of the door . Apply one piece to each side over the nailing fin and onto the water resistive barrier . T he tape should extend 2" above the top of the door and 2" below the bottom of the door .
Caution: Ensure use of low expansion polyurethane window and door installa tion foams and strictly follow the foam manufacturer’ s recommendations for application. Use of high expansive foams or improper application of the foam may cause the door to bow and hinder operation.
" # Note: Application of closed cell foam backer r od and sealant does not apply to stucco. A. Insert closed cell foam backer r od into the space around the door as deep as it will go. T his should provide at le ast a 1/2” clearance between the backer r od and the exterior face of the door .
MULLING INSTRUCTION HORIZONT AL MULLIONS: Note: If transoms are to be attached (mulled) to the top of the unit, perform this process before a ttaching fins. A. Apply two strips of foam tape across the bottom of the transom frame. Note: The tape must extend the full width of the transom frame.
VERTICAL MULLIONS: A. Lay the units on a smooth clean surface, exterior side up to perform these steps. & 9 5 & * 0 3 3 * # * / 5 & * 0 3 3 * # # % & & 9 5 & * 0 3 3 * # * / 5 & * 0 3 3 * # ' B. Apply two strips of foam tape down the fixed door frame sides.
APPL YING INST ALLA TION FINS A. Cut the fins to length. Using the following formula, cut the fins to length, making sure the end cut is square on both ends.
APPL YING HEAD DRIP FIN - REQUIRED FOR VER TICAL MULLION APPLICA TIONS A. Apply a bead of sealant along the whole width of the mulled composite behind the exterior rib. B. On vertical mulls, cut the head drip to the width of the units. Attach the head drip to the top of units aligning the ends and seal to the frame on both ends.
