Installation Instructions for T ypical Wood F rame Construction. These instructions wer e developed and tested for use with typical wood frame wall construction in a wall system designed to manage water . These instructions ar e not to be used with any other construction method.
C. Cut the water resistive barrier (1C). See page 10 for additional cutting pat terns. D. F old the water r esistive barrier (1D). F old side flaps into the opening and staple to inside wall. F old top flap up and temporarily fasten with flashing tape.
A. Install and level shims. Place 1" wide by 1/4" thick shims on the bottom of the opening, 2-1/2" fr om each side, beneath transition bars and mullion joints. K eep shims back 1/2" from interior face of window. Adjust shims as necessary to ensure the sill is level.
F. Insert the window from the e xterior of the building. Place the bottom of the window on the spacers at the bottom of the opening, then tilt the top into position.
A. Units that do not have pre-applied fin corners: Cut four pieces of flashing tape 1-1/2" long. Apply one piece of flashing tape to each end of the sill fin so that it extends 1-1/2" past the end of the sill fin.
D. F old down top flap of water resistive barrier (3D). E. Apply flashing tape to diagonal cuts. Cut pieces of flashing tape at least 1" longer than the diagonal cuts in the water resistive barrier . Apply the tape covering the entire diagonal cut in the water resistive barrier a t both upper corners of the window .
4 SECURING THE WINDOW A. Install a #10 x 3-1/2" corrosion resistant wood scr ew into each pre- drilled screw hole. Note: Minimum 1-1/4" embedment into the wall framing is requir ed. P roceed to S tep 6. Ř ALL WINDOWS Ř ALL WINDOWS Ř 5 INST ALLA TION CLIP METHOD A.
7 SEALING THE WINDOW TO THE EXTERIOR WALL CLADDING When applying siding, brick veneer or other e xterior finish material, leave adequate space between the window frame and the ma terial for sealant. Refer to the illustration tha t corresponds to your finish material.
A. Insert closed cell foam backer r od into the space around the window so ther e is approxima tely 3/8" clearance between the backer r od and the exterior face of the window. Note: Backer rod adds shape and depth for the sealant line. x x B.
EXTERIOR FINISH The exterior fr ame and sash are pr otected by aluminum cladding with our EnduraClad® or EnduraClad Plus baked-on factory finish tha t needs no painting. Clean this surface with mild soap and water . Stubborn stains and deposits may be r emoved with mineral spirits.
