12 C3683M (3/09) PRODUCT SERIAL NUMBER LABEL PLACEMENT Product ser ial number la bels help id entify your system and it s factory conf iguration i n the event that your NSM 5200 or its co mp onents req uire service. Three labels citing your product’ s serial number are attached to t he unit.
C3683M (3/0 9) 13 Equipment Placement and Rack Mounting The NSM5200 can be placed on a flat sur face, such as a deskto p, or mounted in an equip ment rack. DESKTOP INSTALLATION T o install the NSM520 0 on a desktop: 1. Make sure the ru bber feet are installed to prevent surface d amage.
14 C3683M (3/09) RACK MOUNTING The NSM520 0 mounts in to an indust ry-standar d 19-inch (48 cm) equi pment rack. Th e NSM5200 occ upies thr ee rack unit s (5.25 in. or 13.3 cm) of vertical ra ck space. The hardware ne cessary to mount the N SM5200 into a rack is s upplied with the unit.

C3683M (3/0 9) 19 Hard Drive Array Installation The NSM5200 stores data using RA ID (Redundant Array of Independ ent Disks) technology . All NSM5200 Series re corders operate in a RAID 6 configuratio n to maximize fault toleran ce and enha nce disk-a ccess perfor mance.

With the hard drive latch open, slid e the hard drive carrier gently into an op en hard drive bay (refer to Figure 15 ).

CONNECTING POWER The NSM5200 is equippe d with two hot-swappab le power supplies. Th ese autoranging power supplies adap t automatically to voltages from 100 to 240 V AC (50/60 Hz).
22 C3683M (3/09) CONNECTING TO THE NETWORK The NSM5200 support s remote administration from an En dura workstation. The N SM5200 is compatible with the entire family of Endu ra-rea dy devices using TCP/IP and UPnP proto cols. Consult your network ad ministrator before in stalling th e NSM5200 t o avoid possible net work c onflicts.
C3683M (3/0 9) 23 Operation Refer to the W eb Browser manual that was shipped with the unit for details on how to access an d configure the NSM5200 . NOTE: T o make sure that all diagnos tic messages will appear to a syst em operator , leave at least one Endura workstation or VCD5000 ru nn ing at all times.
24 C3683M (3/09) s Software Status • Green: The software is operating n ormally . • Amber: A minor software malfun ction is detected (for example, an excessi ve network packet loss). • Red: A fatal softwar e error has o ccurred: fo r example, c easing to r ecord.
