C1601M (6/04) 1 Introduction The following instructions serve as a guide for the installation of the DX8000-MUX16 analog output adapter . PARTS LIST Qty Description 1 DX8000-MUX16 multiplexing analog output card 1 Adhesive-backed part label Figure 1.
2 C1601M (6/04) Getting Ready 1. Familiarize yourself with the instructions throughout this manual. 2. Check that you have all the necessary parts and tools.

4 C1601M (6/04) Figure 4. ESD Protection 5. Ensure that the DX8000 Series DVR and all of its components are protected against electro static discharge (ESD). Before handling any electronic components, you should take steps to properly ground yourself so that any built-up static electric charges are dissipated away from the unit.
C1601M (6/04) 5 Prepare the Unit OPEN THE UNIT CHASSIS WARNING: The chassis assembly includes parts with sharp edges. T o avoid injury , use caution when working in and around the DX8000’ s chassis and components. 1. If the DX8000 is mounted in a rack, remove it and transport it to an area that will provide full access to the unit chassis: a.
6 C1601M (6/04) 3. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver , remove the chassis cover: WARNING: Make sure unit is turned off and you are wearing a properly grounded ESD wrist strap before attempting to open the DX8000 chassis cover . Refer to the Getting Ready section.
C1601M (6/04) 7 COMPONENT LA YOUT Figure 6 shows the location of your DX8000 Series DVR’ s major components. Certain cables and components have been omitted from the illustrations in this manual for the purpose of clarity .
8 C1601M (6/04) REMOVE THE REAR CROSS-BRACE 1. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver , remove the two flat-head screws that secure the rear cross-brace. Refer to Figure 7.
C1601M (6/04) 9 2. Move the rear cross-brace aside and keep the screws for later use. Figure 8. Moving Rear Cross-Brace to Rear of Unit.
10 C1601M (6/04) Install the DX8000-MUX16 Card 1. Locate PCI Slot 2 on the system motherboard. Refer to Figure 9. Figure 9. Location of PCI Slot 2 PCI SLOT2.
C1601M (6/04) 11 2. Remove the slot cover covering PCI Slot 2: a. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver , remove the screw that fastens the slot cover to the chassis. Refer to Figure 10. Retain this screw for use in step 4d. b. Remove the slot cover from PCI Slot 2.
12 C1601M (6/04) 3. Carefully remove the DX8000-MUX16 card from its static-safe packaging. Handle the adapter card by its edges and slot cover , and avoid contact with the card’ s components, connectors, and conductive leads. 4. Insert the DX8000-MUX16 card in PCI Slot 2: a.
C1601M (6/04) 13 d. Using the screw you removed in step 2a, secure the DX8000-MUX16 card to the chassis. Refer to Figure 12. Figure 12. Securing the DX8000-MUX16 Card 4d.
14 C1601M (6/04) 5. Connect video data cables: a. Connect the rear video input ribbon cable from the primary capture card to the DX8000-MUX16 card. Refer to Figure 13.
C1601M (6/04) 15 b. Connect the front video input ribbon cable from the secondary capture card to the connector on the daughter board of the DX8000-MUX16.
16 C1601M (6/04) c. Connect the video output ribbon cable from the DX8000-MUX16 card to the VGA card. Refer to Figure 15. Figure 15. Video Data Cable Connections 5c.
C1601M (6/04) 17 Reassemble the Unit 1. Replace the rear cross-brace and secure it with the flat-head screws you set aside earlier . Refer to Figure 16.
18 C1601M (6/04) 2. Replace the chassis cover using the same screws you removed from the side and rear of the unit. Refer to Figure 17. Figure 17. Replacing Chassis Cover.
C1601M (6/04) 19 3. Attach the silver part label that came in your upgrade kit to the inside of your DVR’ s front door . a. Remove the paper backing from the part label. b. Carefully place the label, adhesive-side down, on a free section of the inside of the door .
20 C1601M (6/04) ON/OFF 4. Reinstall the unit in a rack enclosure if necessary , and reconnect all cables and peripheral equipment that you removed earlier . 5. Plug the power cord back into the power supply and then into the wall. 6. T urn on the power switch and allow the unit to start up and find the new hardware.
