C1602M (6/04) 1 Introduction The following instructions serve as a guide for the installation of the DX8000-256RAM memory expansion module. PARTS LIST Qty Description 1 256 MB double data rate (DDR) dual inline memory module (DIMM) 1 Adhesive-backed upgrade part label Figure 1.
2 C1602M (6/04) Getting Ready 1. Familiarize yourself with the instructions throughout this manual. 2. Check that you have all the necessary parts and tools.

4 C1602M (6/04) Figure 4. ESD Protection 5. Ensure that the DX8000 Series DVR and all of its components are protected against electrostatic discharge (ESD). Before handling any electronic components, you should take steps to ground yourself properly so that any built-up static electric charges are dissipated away from the unit.
C1602M (6/04) 5 Prepare Unit for RAM Installation OPEN THE UNIT CHASSIS WARNING: The chassis assembly includes parts with sharp edges. T o avoid injury , use caution when working in and around the DX8000’ s chassis and components.
6 C1602M (6/04) 3. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver , remove the chassis cover: WARNING: Make sure unit is turned off and you are wearing a properly grounded ESD wrist strap before attempting to open the DX8000 chassis cover . Refer to the Getting Ready section.
C1602M (6/04) 7 COMPONENT LA YOUT Figure 6 shows the location of your DX8000 Series DVR’ s major components. Certain cables and components have been omitted from the illustrations in this manual for the purpose of clarity .
8 C1602M (6/04) Install the DX8000-256RAM Memory Module 1. Carefully remove the DX8000-256RAM DIMM module from its static-safe packaging. Handle the DIMM by its edges and avoid contact with the module’ s chips or conductive leads. 2. Locate the first empty DIMM socket.
C1602M (6/04) 9 3. Align the DIMM module with the socket so that the notch in the module lines up properly with the break in the DIMM socket. Refer to Figure 8. 4. Make sure that the white retaining clips are not in the locked position by pressing outward and down on each clip.
10 C1602M (6/04) 5. Carefully , but firmly , push the DIMM module into the empty socket until it is properly seated. The module is properly seated when the retaining clips snap back into place as in Figure 9. NOTE: When inserting the DIMM module into the socket, use enough pressure to ensure that the retaining clips snap back into place.
C1602M (6/04) 11 Reassemble the Unit 1. Replace the chassis cover using the same screws you removed from the side and rear of the unit. Refer to Figure 10.
12 C1602M (6/04) 2. Attach the silver part label that came in your upgrade kit to the inside of your DVR’ s front door . a. Remove the paper backing from the part label. b. Carefully place the label, adhesive-side down, on a free section of the inside of the door .
C1602M (6/04) 13 3. Reinstall the unit in a rack enclosure if necessary , and reconnect all cables and peripheral equipment that you removed earlier . 4. Plug the power cord back into the power supply and then into the wall. 5. T urn on the power switch and allow the unit to start up and find the new memory .
14 C1602M (6/04) V erify Installation of New RAM 1. After the DX8000 application starts, log in as an administrator level user and exit to the Windows ® operating system. Refer to the Installation or Operations and Programming manuals that came with your unit for instructions.
C1602M (6/04) 15 4 4. V erify that the amount of RAM is now 512 MB. Refer to Figure 15. Figure 15. System Properties Dialog Box 5. Click OK to exit the System Properties dialog box. 6. Go to Start > Programs > DX8000 to start the DX8000 application and return the unit to service.
