12 C1695M-B (11/08) Hardware Installation EQUIPMENT PLACEMENT AND RACK MOUNTING The DVR5100 can be plac ed on a flat surface, such as a desktop, or mounted in a n equipment rack.

16 C1695M-B (11/08) Connections Familiarize yourself with the DVR5100 rear panel before connecting any equipment to the unit. The DVR5100 is available as a 4-, 8-, or 16 -analog input DVR. Figure 11 sh ows the DVR5116 rear panel for the 16 -analog input DVR.

18 C1695M-B (11/08) CONNECTING DEVICES TO THE DVR5100 CONNECTING A USB PC KEYBOARD AND MOUSE The DVR5100 provide s three USB ports: • One USB po rt on th e front pa nel • T wo USB ports on the rear panel. Connect the USB P C keyboard an d mouse to any availabl e USB port s on the DVR51 00.

20 C1695M-B (11/08) CONNECTING ANALOG CAMERAS The DVR5100 auto matically detects the video stan dard (P AL or NTSC) whenever you con nect an analog camera. It accepts both color and black-white a nalog video. NOTES: • Most cameras ha ve a line loc k feature.
C1695M-B (11/08) 21 LOOPING VIDEO OUT The DVR5100 su pports loopin g video fo r all analog inputs. It p asses the vi deo input t o a monitor or other anal og video dev ice. T o use looping video: 1. Connect a coaxial cable to th e video out connector on the rear p anel.
22 C1695M-B (11/08) CONNECTING RELAY DEVICES Consider the following when wiring the connector: • Use a 16–26 A WG (0.14 to 1.5 mm 2 ) wire that is rated fo r 250 V or higher . The insulation must be thick enoug h to protect against electrostatic discharge ( ESD).

During star tup, the DVR5 100 reads co nfiguration files fro m the flash card, and t hen copies t hem to a pro tected part ition on the hard disk drives.

NOTE: As a security precautio n, change the user ID for autologin as part of the configur ation and s etup process. From the Gene ral Sys tem setup screen, select the guest user ID, or create a new user ID, as the default autologin user .

38 C1695M-B (11/08) DATE AND T IME SETUP Y o u can select a choice of on-screen t ime and date formats, an d the oper ating time zon e for the DVR5100 (refer t o Figure 36). B efore you rec ord any video, you must set the system time, date , and time zone .
C1695M-B (11/08) 39 NETWORK SETUP Multiple DVR5100 Series DVRs can be networked for remote operat ion an d management using the TCP/IP protocol. Up to three simult aneous PC clients can be connecte d to each DVR.
40 C1695M-B (11/08) DDNS SETUP The DVR5100 allows you to configure DDNS for your application. DDN S is a service that maps Internet domain names to IP ad dresse s. DDNS serves a s imilar purpos e to DNS. DD NS allo ws anyone hosting a W eb or FTP server to advert ise a public name to prospective users (refer to Figure 38).
C1695M-B (11/08) 41 SERIAL PORT SETUP The RS-422 serial port is the basic connector fo r communicati on between the DVR5100 and a PTZ camera when using a serial teleme try control protocol. T he speed of t he serial po rt must match t he speed pr ogrammed into the camera.

Each zone can be e na bled and configured independen tly . Each zon e allows an un limited numb er of area s to be desi gnated as co rrespondin g to the pa rameters of that zone.

Similar to setting up alarm sett ings, you can select the severity of motion alarms, set the pre- an d post-alarm record ing for motion alarms, and cr eate a separate comment fo r logs.
48 C1695M-B (11/08) RECORDING By default, the DVR5100 is config ured to re cord video from all came ras, 24 hours a da y , 7 days a week for three individual sch e dules: co ntinuous, motion, and al arm. T o op timize your stor age capacit y: • Set up schedules to activa te recording for specific cameras at certain dates an d times.
C1695M-B (11/08) 49 DELETING A RECORDING SCHEDULE T o clea r one of th e default s chedules: 1. Right-click one of the colored recording bars for a day of the week. 2. Select “Dele te schedule .” Only the selected recording s c hedule is de leted.

Setting the time manually: Select a day fr om the Day list, which contains Monday–Sund ay . After selecting the day , adjust the start and end time for that da y using the u p/down arrows.

C1695M-B (11/08) 53 CAMERA SETTINGS For a high priority came ra, you may want to incr ease the resolut ion and frame rate to values highe r than the global set tings. T o save space, you may want to reduce th e resolution and frame rate for low- priority cameras.

If the resistance changes, due to an electrical short or a bypass, t he voltage fluctuat es from its norm al state.

An important point after buying a device Pelco DVR5100 (or even before the purchase) is to read its user manual. We should do this for several simple reasons:

The information that you get Pelco DVR5100 will certainly help you make a decision on the purchase.
