Up to eight units ca n be connected to an NVR5100 for a maximum of 62.
8 C1621M-E (9/08) Before Y ou Begin Endura is a network system that re quires a contin uous amount of bandwidth to transmit tr ue, live video. Therefore, always inclu de you r network administrator when plan ning and installing Endura comp onents.

C1621M-E (9/08) 13 Equipment Placement and Rack Mounting The NVR5100 can be placed on a flat surf ace, such as a desktop, or mounted in an equipme nt rack. UNPACKING THE NVR5100 The NVR5100 recorder ships with two smaller boxes as sho wn in Fi gure 6: one contains the hard drive pack, the oth er contains th e accessory pa ck.

C1621M-E (9/08) 15 RACK MOUNTING The NVR5100 mo unts into an i ndustry-sta ndard 19-inc h (48 cm) equip ment rack. Th e NVR5100 occu pies three ra ck units (5.2 5 in. or 13.3 cm) of vertical ra ck space. The ha rdware necessa ry to mount the NVR5100 into a rack is supp lied with the un it.
16 C1621M-E (9/08) 2. Remove the rubber feet from the unde rside of the unit if they are attached. 3. Attach one front-mount rail to one rear -mount rail. Make sure t he rails are moun ted back to back, as shown in Figure 10. Depe nding on rack depth, use either three or four 8-32 x 0.

Insert two 10-32 x 0.5-inch Philli ps flat head screws into the spacer , one in the top hole and one in the bottom hole.

20 C1621M-E (9/08) Hard Drive Array Installation The NVR5100 stores da ta using RAID (Redundant Array of Independ ent Disks) technology . All NVR5100 Series recorders opera te in a RAID 5 configuratio n to maximize fa ult tolerance and enhanc e disk-access performance.

22 C1621M-E (9/08) 6. Make sure the hard drive ca rrier has been insta lled correctly . Without squeezing the sp ring-loaded rele ase tabs, gently pull the plastic front cover of the carrier away from th e chassis. If the carrie r does no t pu ll out, the drive is secure .
C1621M-E (9/08) 23 Connections Familiarize yourself with the NVR5100 rear panel before conn ecting any equipment to the unit. Figure 20. These autoranging powe r supplies adapt automat ically to voltages b etween 100 V AC and 240 V AC (50/60 Hz).
24 C1621M-E (9/08) CONNECTING TO THE NETWORK The NVR5100 Series reco rder supports remote administra tion from an Endura workst ation. The NVR5100 is compatible with the en tir e family of Endura-ready devices using TCP/IP and UPn P protocols. Consult your network ad ministrato r before installi ng the NVR5100 to avoid possible network conflicts.

Use the or derly shutdown in most cases . An immediate sh utdown is the s ame as disconnec ting power a nd can result in corrupted da ta files.

C1621M-E (9/08) 35 APPENDIX C: REPLAC ING A POWER SUPPLY The NVR5100 incorporates tw o independent, hot-swappab le power supp lies. Each power supply a cts as a redundan t alternate for th e other . This level of fau lt tolerance ensures that the NVR5100 is ca pable of sustaining uninterruptible operat ion, even if one power supply fails.

UPS devices maintain a limi ted amount of backup batte ry power in case the main power fails. Nearly any UPS device can be used to supply backup batte ry power .
