4 C2647M (10/06) Getting Started 1. Familiarize yourself with the inst ructi ons througho ut this manual. 2. Check that you ha ve all the necessary parts and tools. Refer to Parts and T o ols on page 3. 3. If possible, export all essent ia l video before you install a new hard disk d r ive.
C2647M (10/06) 5 6. Ensure that the DVR5 100 DVR and all of its componen ts are protected from electr ostatic discharge (ESD). Before handling an y electronic co mponents, you sh ould take step s to ground yourself pr operly so that any built- up static electric cha rges are diss ipated away fro m the unit.
6 C2647M (10/06) Hard Disk Drive Replacement PREPARING THE UNIT TO INSTALL A DRIVE 1. Log off the system an d shut down the ma chine. The power will tu rn off automatically . 2. As a preca ution again st electros tatic shock, remove the power cord from th e rear panel of the unit, a nd then disconnect a ll devices atta ched to it.
C2647M (10/06) 7 INSTALLING A HARD DISK DRIVE 1. Follow the instructions at Prep aring the Unit to Install a D rive on page 6 to open your unit. 2. Locate the hard disk drive cage in the front of the DVR. Figure 6. Locating the Hard Disk Drive Cage 3.
8 C2647M (10/06) b. Lift up and slide the cage out from un der the ret ainer bracket . Notice tha t there are two tabs alon g the bottom of the cage t hat se cure it in place. Figure 8. Removing the Hard Disk Drive Cage c. Remove the po wer and data ca ble from both of the drives in the cage.
C2647M (10/06) 9 d. With a Phillips screw d river , remove and set a side the four screws t hat secure the dr ive to the sides of the cage. Figure 10. Removing the Screws from Hard Disk Drive in the Cage e. Slide the dr ive out of t he cage being careful to avoid sc ratching the bottom of the drive against th e metal of the cage.

C2647M (10/06) 11 REASSEMBLING THE UNIT 1. Replace the lid, and use the ori ginal screws t o secure the l id in place. 2. Reattach any devices that you disconnect ed from the unit (refe r to Figure 15). 3. Reconnect the p ower cord. 4. Restart the DVR5100, and then enter a user name and p assword on the Login scree n to log on to the system.

C2647M (10/06) 13 Relay s 1–2: One relay is provide d for every 4 channels: • One relay ou tput is pro vided for a 4-ch annel DVR. • T wo relay outputs (1, 2 for channels 1 and 2, respect ively) are provided fo r an 8-channel DVR.
