42 Notebook PC User Manual Emergency Shutdown In case your operating system cannot pr operly turn OFF or restar t, there is an additional way t o shutdown your Notebook PC: Hold the power butt on over 4 seconds. IMPORT ANT! DO NOT use emer genc y shutdown while data is being written; doing so can result in loss or destruction of your data.

44 Notebook PC User Manual Sleep is the same as Suspend-to- RAM (STR). This func tion stores your current da ta and status in RAM while many components are turned OFF . B ecause RAM is volatile , it requires pow er to keep (refresh) the da ta. Click the W indows button and the arrowhead next to the lock icon to see this option.

This indicator is OFF when the Notebook PC is turned OFF or in the Suspend-to-Disk (H ibernation) mode.

Notebook PC User Manual 55 Touchpad The touchpad is an interactive device that interprets the gestures and position of your ngers to simulate the functions of a regular mouse.
56 Notebook PC User Manual Using the touchpad The touchpad allows you to use one-nger and multi-nger gestures to move the pointer so you can select and click items, rotate and zoom images, scroll lists, as well as swipe and switch between windows.

58 Notebook PC User Manual T o rotat e an image, place two ngers on the touchpad then turn one nger clockwise or counterclockwise while the other stays still . T o enable continuous scr olling, hold your ngers on the edge of the touchpad when moving fr om up to down or left to right and vice versa.
Notebook PC User Manual 59 The touc hpa d res pond s to movem ent not to for ce. T here is no need to tap the surface too hard. Tapping too hard does not increase the responsiveness of the touchpad. The touchpad responds best to light pressure. Caring for the touchpad The touchpad is pressure sensitive.
60 Notebook PC User Manual Disabling the touchpad automatically You can automatically disable the touchpad when an external USB mouse is attached. To disable the touchpad: 1. Go to Control Panel . Change view settings to Large Icons then select Mouse.
