42 Notebook PC User Manual Emergency Shutdown In case your operating system cannot pr operly turn OFF or restar t, there is an additional way t o shutdown your Notebook PC: Hold the power butt on over 4 seconds. IMPORT ANT! DO NO T use emergency shutdown while data is being written; doing so can result in loss or destruction of your data.
Notebook PC User Manual 43 Sleep and Hibernate P ower management settings can be found in the W indow s > Con trol Panel > Har dware and Sound > Po wer Options . In P ower Options , you can dene Sleep/Hibernate or Shut Do wn for closing the display panel or pressing the pow er button.
44 Notebook PC User Manual Sleep is the same as Suspend-to- RAM (STR). This function stores your current da ta and status in RAM while many components are turned OFF . Because RAM is volatile , it requires pow er to keep (refresh) the da ta. Click the W indows button and the arrowhead next to the lock icon to see this option.

56 Notebook PC User Manual Using the touchpad The touchpad allows you to use one-nger and multi-nger gestures to m ove the pointer so you can s elect a nd cli ck items, rotate and zoom images, scroll lists, as well as swipe and switch between windows.

58 Notebook PC User Manual T o rotate an image, place two ngers on the touchpad then turn one nger clockwise or counterclockwise while the other stays still . T o enable continuous scrolling, hold your ngers on the edge of the touchpad when moving fr om up to down or left to right and vice versa.

Tapping too hard does not increase the responsiveness of the touchpad. The touchpad responds best to light pressure. Caring for the touchpad The touchpad is pressure sensitive.
60 Notebook PC User Manual Disabling the touchpad automatically You can automatically disable the touchpad when an external USB mouse is attached. To disable the touchpad: 1. Go to Control Panel . Change view settings to Large Icons then select Mouse.
