10 Figure 2. Model 2168B standalone rear panel 3.1 CONNECTING THE TWISTED-PAIR LINE INTERFACE The Model 2168B suppor ts communication between two peer Ethernet LAN sites ov er a distance of up to 4,250 ft (1.3 km) ov er 24 AWG (0.5 mm) twisted-pair wire.
11 1. T o function properly , the two Model 2168Bs must be connected together using twisted-pair , unconditioned, dry , metal wire, betw een 19 (0.9mm) and 26 A WG (0.4mm). Leased circuits that run through signal equalization equipment are not acceptable .

An e xternal AC or DC pow er supply is av ailab le separately . This connec- tion is made via the barrel jack on the rear panel of the Model 2168B .

14 4.2 CONFIGURING DIP SWITCH S1 DIP s witch S1 is where you configure the CopperLINK line . The f ollo wing tables describe the configuration f or the 2168B . 5.0 OPERATION Once the Model 2168Bs are properly installed, they should operate transparently .
15 5.2 FRONT PANEL LED STATUS MONITORS The Model 2168B f eatures six front panel LEDs that monitor power , the Ethernet signals, the CopperLINK connection, and the remote/local set- ting. Figure 7 shows the front panel location of each LED . T ab le 2 on page 15 describes the LED functions.
