1-2 Chapter 1: Product introduction 1 . 1 W elcome! Thank you for choosing the ASUS ASUS Pocket Wireless AP! The ASUS Pocket Wireless AP is a compact easy-to-install and use access point (AP) and Ethernet adapter in one.
ASUS Pocket Wireless Access Point (WL-330g) 1-3 1.3.1 T op view LEDs . The ASUS Pocket Wireless AP comes with three LED indicators (Ethernet, Wireless, and Power).

1-6 Chapter 1: Product introduction 1 .5 Recommended network settings The ASUS Pocket Wireless AP can be configured as an Access Point (AP) or wireless Ethernet adapter . In AP mode, the device acts as the central link between computers in a wireless network.

2-4 Chapter 2: Installation 2.2.3 Using USB bus power 1. Insert one end of the supplied RJ-45 cable to the WL-330g Ethernet port. 2. Insert the other end of the RJ-45 cable to the Ethernet port on your computer , notebook, network hub, switch, router , or wall patch panel.

2-6 Chapter 2: Installation 2.4.2 Site survey A site survey (utility provided with the ASUS Pocket Wireless AP) analyzes the installation environment and provides users with recommendations for equipment and its placement. The optimum placement dif fer depending on the device design and specifications.

ASUS Pocket Wireless Access Point (WL-330g) 3-3 3.2 Wir eless Setting Utility The Wireless Setting Utility allows easy configuration of the ASUS Pocket Wireless AP in both access point and Ethernet adapter modes. Y ou can launch the Wireless Setting Utility directly from the support CD or from the Windows ® desktop.
3-4 Chapter 3: Configuration 3.2.2 Using the Wireless Setting Utility T o set the device as an access point (AP) Make sure that you switched the WL-330g to AP mode before launching the Wireless Setting Utility . Use the mode switch to change the device operating mode.

Otherwise, click OK to finish setting up the AP . T o establish connection, a wireless client must have the same SSID, channel, and encryption settings as that of the WL-330g.
3-6 Chapter 3: Configuration 7. After applying the settings, the utility displays the WL-330g access point information. Click Finish to close the utility .

3-8 Chapter 3: Configuration 5. The selected wireless network appears in the Preferred Networks field. Select the network, then click OK . 4. The WL-330g automatically adjusts to the SSID and channel settings of the selected wireless network. Click OK .

3-10 Chapter 3: Configuration 3.3 Web Configuration utility The Web Configuration utility allows you to configure the ASUS Pocket Wireless AP using a web browser on your computer . The following sections provide information on how to launch and use this utility .

3-12 Chapter 3: Configuration 3.3.2 Launching the W eb Configuration utility Using the Wireless Setting Utility Using an Internet browser T o launch the Web Configuration utility using an Internet web browser: 1. Open a web browser . 2. Disable your proxy settings, if any .

Enabling the Response to Broadcast SSID requests option allows the device to broadcast its SSID in a wireless network. This allows other wireless devices to scan and establish communication with the device.
3-14 Chapter 3: Configuration Click the Associated Stations link (beside the SSID) to displays the list of wireless device(s) associated with the ASUS Pocket Wireless AP . The list includes the wireless device(s) MAC address and connection status. Channel.
ASUS Pocket Wireless Access Point (WL-330g) 3-15 Method Description Open system This method allows the device to accept connection or shared key requests from any wireless device within its operating range. Shared Key Only wireless device(s) with the same encryption are allowed to connect to the AP .
3-16 Chapter 3: Configuration • 64-bit and 40-bit WEP keys use the same encryption method and can interoperate on wireless networks. This lower level of WEP encryption uses a 40-bit (10 hexadecimal digits assigned by the user) secret key and a 24-bit Initialization V ector assigned by the device.
ASUS Pocket Wireless Access Point (WL-330g) 3-17 A shorter re-key interval provides a more secure wireless network. 3. Set the WP A Re-key Timer (1 ~ 2147483647 seconds). The re-key timer allows you to set the time interval before the WP A group key is changed.
3-18 Chapter 3: Configuration Access Control page The MAC Access Control page allows you to control the wireless network traffic by specifying the MAC addresses of wireless clients allowed to establish connection to the WL-330g. T o specify the wireless clients allowed to establish connection to the WL-330g: 1.

3-20 Chapter 3: Configuration Regulation Domain IEEE 802.1 1b/g networks are regulated worldwide since these networks use the 2.4GHz ~ 2.5GHz ISM (Instrumentation, Scientific, and Medical) Band. The ASUS Pocket Wireless AP is shipped with a default regulation domain allowed in your country/location.

3-24 Chapter 3: Configuration Channel . Select the channel used by the AP (Infrastructure) or the wireless device (Ad-hoc) to establish connection. Station Mode . This field allows you to select the device wireless standard while in Ethernet adapter mode.

3-26 Chapter 3: Configuration Site Survey page The Site Survey page displays the Station Status , and allows you to scan and connect to available wireless networks within the WL-330g range. This page also allows you to save a wireless connection in the Profile T able for the Button Scan Mode feature.
ASUS Pocket Wireless Access Point (WL-330g) 3-27 T o scan available wireless network(s) in your location: 1. Click the Survey button on the bottom of the page. A Site Scanning window appears. 2. The utility displays the available wireless network(s) in the Site Survey table.
3-28 Chapter 3: Configuration T o connect to an available wireless network with a hidden SSID and disabled encryption: 1. From the Site Survey table, select the wireless network (with a hidden SSID and disabled encryption) you intend to join. 2. Click to select the number of the wireless network you intend to join, then click the Join button.

T o connect to an available wireless network with a known SSID and enabled encryption: 1. Click Apply when finished. A message appears in the browser indicating that you have successfully joined the wireless network.
3-32 Chapter 3: Configuration Saved wireless networks are preceded by an icon for easy identification. Refer to page 3-8 for wireless network icon indications. Profile T able The Profile T able allows you to view or delete saved wireless networks. The table displays the saved wireless network SSID, channel, security settings, and network type.
